If the STi beats the Evo or vice-versa in a straight line, what does that prove? That the driver of the winning car was better able to put the right foot down.
If you want to impress people, take your car out to a road course or autocross track. Thats where you can tell apart the men from the boys.
That is where cars as close as the Evo and STi will allow their DRIVERS to determine the result.
See you out there...

I found the review to be a great read. Being as those 3 cars are tops on my list of hopefuls for next car made it even better. And, sure it was a bit biased. It was on a VW board. If someone here had written it, it would have bashed the R32 for having too much luxury and so on. Who cares. We all know what the cars can do. I mean, hell, the R32 kept up nicely and it isn't even intended to be a direct competitor to those cars.
The tire comment is another that too many people are *****ing about. I believe what they were trying to say about the tires is that if the R32 would have some spec rubber made just for it, it would have helped on the race track. The tires on the Evo and STi are made specifically for those cars. The Pilot Sports on the R32 are just a high performace street tire used on everything from Benzs to BMWs to S2000s. But, they were testing them stock for stock, so who cares. Again, that boils down to intended use. VW builds that car as the top eschelon of the Golf/GTI line. Its not built so they can make a winning race car out of it. So, super-high performance rubber isn't really needed on the car stock, because 95% of the owners just want a fast, fun street car. Having spec tires like the Evo and STi just doesn't fit the car.
But, each of those cars has an intended audience, and both will be, and are, big hits with that audience. You may only like one of them. Thats cool. Or, you might like all of them. Thats cool as well. They all have certain things about them that people just wont understand. Its just like someone said a few posts before me. If you have to ask, you don't get it. And if you get it, you don't need to ask. Its just like the old saying the Jeepers use. Don't ask, its a Jeep thing.

Good reading even if it is a little biased. Personally, the tire excuse is a little of a stretch but if they have made it a weight difference (V6 + 18 inch rims) and braking, I might have bought it. But then again, that will be bashing the R32 and they don't want to do that.

Yeah Im not too scared of many cars right now pushing 330whp and running mid 12's... I think i may be able to smoke a STI. But stock for stock I give the STI the advantage.
I am more worried if Ford actually produces the Focus AWD turbo-Cosworth engine which they are showing around, last seen in the latest Road and Track (or Motortrend, I lose track sometimes). Lighter car than either STi or Evo, 2 door, 300+ hp. Should be pretty cool.

Back on-topic, I bet driver skill will be more of a factor with Evo vs STi in a straight line, but just speculating. I wouldn't get too big of a head about the handling, the STi is still one of the best handling cars on the street if you havent noticed, albeit apparently not as good as the Evo.
I doubt the Focus AWD will make it over here. The Mustang GT/Cobra guys would be pissed. Nice looking car though.
I'm not too scared. Like someone said earlier. There's always someone faster. Right now the EVO runs circles around 90%+ of the cars on the road. With some simple mods it can run circles around 98%+. The ony thing I'm jealous about is the beautiful gauges in the STi.

Isn't Motorweek also doing a comparo for TV for this weekend? (June 6-7)... It'll be on Speed Channel, IIRC.
Isn't one of those shows on TNN as well? I forget... They show so much NASCAR that I have stopped watching that channel on a daily basis. I often miss the good racing as a result... Oh well...
