RECALL- Manual trans Evo X's
Called again.
Asked the same questions.
I was told they've already reviewed their legal process regarding the matter ( reimbursement for after market parts) and it concludes that they will NOT be giving reimbursements for them. mind you, he did add an "at this moment" to the end of that so. ..
He did say that if the work wasn't performed at a mitsu, they can definitely kook into reimbursement.
As far as having the magnus kit installed (which he named specifically) they will not help.
Hmm.
So anyone out there have the new cmc on an after market clutch?

did they state they would not help at all? like not even the labor charges because I can understand not being reimbursed for the part since it is pretty much customization to the original design although an oem cmc is still being used. but the labor was still paid to fix the original flawed cmc. before the recall there weren't any other fixes I know I didn't want to put the stock one back in and keep breaking it.
hey iowa if you do call im interested in what they had to say im sure youll bring up pretty good points to them

I just tried, but even calling the minute they open got me in line to talk with a critter and I'm impatient (and busy).
But I still want to know when SoundWave did the work on his or her car and if Mitsu asked when the work was done. They are legally obligated to reimburse you (with receipts) for work done to correct a now-recalled defect as long as the work was done in a certain time window. In general, work done in the year prior to the recall is inside the window, but the window can extend farther back in time if the maker dragged their feet during the process. If you want to know the specific date, you need to contact NHTSA and find out when they started their investigation and/or when Mitsu told them there was an issue.

Just called NHTSA's hotline and the very nice person (who seemed to know very little about cars) said that Mitsu is not obligated to work around any unauthorized mods that get in the way of the recall work. That is not something that an owner with a skidplate and aftermarket brakes wanted to hear. I then asked if she knew the true start date for the window within which reimbursement applies. She had no clue and suggested that I write to them, instead.
NHTSA's hotline seems to be mostly set up to listen to complaints.
The best part of the conversation was when she said that, because the recall notice doesn't say that they'll bleed the brakes, they are not obligated to bleed the brakes, even after changing the brake fluid. That's when it really became clear how unhelpful she (and maybe NHTSA as a whole) was going to be. I almost suggested that, if swapping brake fluid doesn't automatically include bleeding the brakes, maybe the S should be removed from NHTSA, but I didn't because I'm an internet tiger; in person or even just on the phone, I'm not the bully I am when I'm armed with a keyboard.

I'm dropping my car of tonight with the dealership to perform the recall. I have an aftermarket clutch...
I was not asked when the work was performed.
I didn't ask for reimbursement for just the labor. I didn't even think to. I guess id expect them to mention that if I'm asking for a reimbursement. That's probablywrong to assume huh...
My question to them was: will they reimburse me if I had encountered and fixed the problem with an aftermarket part. Answer was no. So obviously they didn't care much for when the work was done.
My question to you guys is, have any of you who have gotten the new cmc or have gone to take it in have after market clutches? ?

Call again and/or file a complaint. They owe you some money if you have receipts, assuming that you did the work in the last year or so, because that's inside the window for reimbursement.
If this were warranty work, then I'd guess that it wouldn't be covered. But this is a recall and that's different.
Has anyone actually sent their receipts and documentation to Mitsubishi for a refund?
What is this one year window?
-So if you had to pay to replace a faulty master cylinder at a Mitsubishi dealer with an OEM unit 1 year and 1 day ago you don’t get a refund? Why not?
If they are recognizing that the item was defective from MY2008 to current, why is there a one year window?

The one-year window is a NHTSA thing. If you effectively repaired something before the recall cards were mailed, you are entitled to a refund. The window starts one year before the last card is mailed or one year before NHTSA became aware of the issue or started their own investigation, whichever is further back in time. Thus, one year is the minimum.
Why is it one year? No idea.
What happens if you repaired the defect one day before the window opens? You can still ask for a refund, but they aren't obligated to pay.
Why is the stuff so random? Because.
Do you really think that "because" is a valid answer to a reasonable question? No, but that's still the way it is.
Why? Because.
Do you know how annoying you are? Yes.
And yet you still do it ... why? Because.

Ughhh wasted my whole day today, dropped the car off for the recall...service manager calls me 2 hours later telling me they can't do it because they think the new cmc they received is defective or got damaged during shipping cause they see a crack on it. Funny thing is diff guy before told me they had like 4 of them sitting there and when I asked the manager he told me I was misinformed or w.e and this is the only one they have on hand right now. Had to take the whole day off work due to the times they wanted me to drop it off and pick it up, which conflicted with my schedule and I figured I'll just get it out the way. So pissed.
No, Iowa, I'm not trying to figure out if an am clutch would void the recall, cause it sure as heel shouldn't for many reasons. I'm wondering if this new cmc has been used with an am clutch.
Dude on the phone told me they have actually reimbursed some who've bought oem parts. Of course he would.
Yeah, Iowa. That was all bought up on the phone. Why would anyone put more than two oem cmcs in? They are faulty. So the only way to fix the problem is the am option.
Hypothetical here. Let's say someone isn't very diligent with their mail. And let's say their mail from the past week are still in the mail box.
And then let's say they had their cmc repaired at either:
a dealer who wasn't yet informed so the evo driver had to pay for it (Also oblivious to the recall)
Or
Had the magnus installed. And payed the 600. Or 300and did it themselves .
Would they be eligible for money back? Sing as how it was performed after?

And that's an excellent question, but the way. We know that the CMC from an 8/9 can handle an upgraded clutch, but, as of now, we don't know if the redesigned CMC for an X can take it. Given the low engagement issue with the new version, this might make having the recall done rather unattractive to many.
