Mitsubishi has stated (somewhere, I read remember reading it... damn! I can't remember where...) that the new Evo will also be available with a standard manual tranny.
[QUOTE=Noize]-The engine is being rotated 180 degrees, meaning that the route to the FMIC will be much longer on the hot side (unless they go TMIC, which I'm _really_ hoping against)[QUOTE]
They probably rotated the engine so it could be behind the front wheels, instead of in front of them, leading to a better weight balance. Nothing wrong with that -- makes it more like an M3, right?

The world is waiting on the EVO X, not just Mitsubishi fans. It will establish a new standard for performance. Can you name another car that provides just as much performance at the Evo's price point, but has better luxury/comfort or ergonomics? The STi does not provide the same or better performance and it certainly doesn't look better.
Sexier sheetmetal doesn't weigh more, so its just a matter of the Evo design team having more control of what the base Lancer is going to look like. The same goes for the interior. I think more attention is going to be given to the drivetrain, so I don't understand why everyone expects the Evo X to be a dramatic departure from what we are used to. I don't not forsee an M3 or A4 style vehicle that is heavier then necessary and over equipped with options.
If you are worried about status, and think people will take you more seriously if you drive a BMW or Mercedes, I still think the Evo X will disapoint you.

I'd be more than happy if they just took the IX's mechanicals and slapped the X's sheetmetal on it (I'd loose the wing but thats me). Update the interior to be on par or better than an STi and you are done. Hell even the new civic interior is good enough.
The DSG and S-AWC sounds nice and all but to keep initial cost and future maintenance cost down I would take a short-throw manual. Anyone know what a DSG would cost if if it went up? Can't imagine it would be cheap.

It will be a nicer car, but it will still look like a hopped up Lancer, and it will still be a Mitsubishi, so those that need brand image to justify their purchase will still feel put off by it. And those that simply want the best bang for the buck, giant killer, performance vehicle on the face of the planet, will have something new to get hyped about.

i wonder if they'll have an rs version, completely stripped of all the computer bs, just a pure raw 5 speed with clutch
The active steering is the only new technology I didn't like after first hearing about it. But we'll have to wait and see! I wouldn't mind a steering wheel that became a bit heavier at high speeds but this sounds like something different altogether. They've done such a stellar job on the chassis for so many years, I need to believe they'll get the steering right and it'll feel very natural.
