Yup, just for the handling ( Roll Control system)

The styling still sucks...

Which transmission is lighter in order 6sp man, dsg, smg? Hopefully they pick the lightest and strongest and simplest one.

I really don't think it's as simple as going with the lighter, stronger, simpler one.
6speed is lightest with a DSG equivalent being 40 lbs heavier, however the DSG is still faster than the 6speed in the 1/4.

I love the VIII, but am anxiously awaiting the X to be my new daily-driver, (with the VIII sitting in my garage, of course).

All preferences, maintenance concerns, and anecdotal experiences aside, the fastest way to drive includes minimizing off-accelerator time during acceleration. Unless you are flat-foot powershifting all the time you aren't even CLOSE to how fast you could be with a sequential gearbox. I wonder if a F1 driver ever hopped in a car and said "wait a minute here...I know I will be an extra second off the pace every lap because of it, but please install a gear shift lever and clutch..." I always laugh when I watch Indy/CART on TV and they reach down off the steering wheel to shift. How can they consider themselves top tier? I remember watching a guy in his Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge Stradale blasting through the gears in anger down the front straight at PIR...the sheer violence and sound of the sub 0.10 second shifting is just unreal. Sequential gearboxes are not just novel, they are another tool to help you go fast. I've never driven one, but if they offered one in a performance car I was going to get, I dam sure would learn. Think how awkward it was to learn stick...I'm sure in time it would come.

Sorry for the rude remarks but here're my 2cents: those who have been on the track (road course), sweat it out for hours at a time trying to improve your lap timing, where tenths of a second improvement is a godsend, will welcome any sequential transmission.

Wanna-be's who think they're macho by shifting manually will continue to be the nay-sayers.

I’m not sure why this is still getting resistance since both options will be available. I have driven the excellent DSG system in the Golf GTI and can tell you that I the X’s setup is as good as that, I will likely be leaning that way. I’ll still miss the clutch peddle… But I’ll get over it.

Even though i dont own an evo, I am still looking into this new trans. From what i can see i think those "HARD CORE" guy will be kicking themselves in the future when there getting there buts kicked on what ever course they dicide to drive. Ive seen vids on that trans going up against a car with 20+ more horsepower. That trans just shifts sooooo much faster and plus it keeps pulling while the guy with the clutch is still shifting. Check it out if your a real performance person, you may be surprised. Hell if i do decide to get an evo my next time out ill probly get one with a paddle shifter instead.
