I'm wondering though if they will keep the specs a secret and just show a closed up cordoned off 80-90% production model, just so the Subie camp can't readjust.
The Impreza looks better then the last one, but it looks like a freshened current model then an all new vehicle. I don't think it will be radically improved enough to keep up with the X which I think will outspec it and out perform it.
i had a 05 evo and now a 06 STi i really dont know if i want another evo or the new STi hatch the hatch is really in my favor now i guess i'll just wait for the auto shows to show all the detail for both cars to decided which babe is the right one for me

drive around the block?? It's heavier than the M3 yet has less (or same amount
of) tires and open rear diff.
hmm
i dont agree with that,
anything can be cracked, not too familiar with eclipse and how people used to mod it, can you ellaborate on the eclipse ECU tuning out modifications?
Mitusbishi knows that EVO buyers will most likely mod car and tune it. IMO, It would be a very unwise move on their parts to design the ecu so it would be virtually impossible to crack it without having to go with standalone or a piggyback.
That would alienate a lot of buyers if the car was labelled mod unfriendly.
They might as well only offer evo Xwith automatic tranny only

I think you're going to get a 320ish hp car... that will NOT except mods whatsoever without pulling the ECU and going to some sort of standalone EMS. The 3rd gen and up eclipse's will actively "tune out" modifications. You put in headers... it retunes to zero them out, catback... same thing. Tuner's tried to reprogram the ecu's... No go. Tried using black boxes and such to trick the ecu, but with limited success.
I really think the new Evo's are going to made to hinder any aftermarket parts. That is the direction Mitsu is going these days.

The reason the 3G Eclipse seems untunable is because nobody in the performance community gives a flying rat's **** about that car. It has a very small following, and little to offer to a real driving enthusiast: No AWD option, no turbo option. To sum up, its an overweight land turd FWD.
The Acura RSX-S ECU is a microprocessor, and substantially more difficult to crack than a 3G Eclipse would be. But it was cracked. Why? Because the RSX-S is not a flaming pile of crap, that the Honda K20A is an engine worth modding.
If there is a good following for a car, its not a matter of "if" an ECU will be cracked, it is "when". For a car like an Evo, it won't take very long, I promise.
So much for your conspiracy theory, man.
Yeah, I heard that too. Evo X is going to be the platform for the new WRC car. That's also the reason why the mouth is so big! They build this car to be efficient in the rally version because they can't really change much the front end from production to race car.

easy solution.
