Happened to me a few weeks ago too. I leave my hood popped but latched closed when I'm driving in town. It helps a little.

What i had to do is add a Flex a lite fan on my car and a Evo radiator , the Evo radiator is twice the size of the Lancer one and is bolt on . My car doesnt overheat at all after i changed those out ! Even in San Antonio when all this week has been 103-109

Horn - don't get rid of it.

02-lancer-es - what kind of temps are you seeing now with the evo radiator.

It doesnt go over 195 ever on it . Its just a stock Evo radiator which is twice the size of the core of the Lancer .

since you're auto did you have to get a tranny cooler separate since the evos are manual?

Yeah, I start to see some over heating temps at times also. I added a couple of cap fulls of water wetter to help and when it starts to get hot...I turn on the heat!

You do know turning on the heat acts as a second radiator right as its running through the heater core. Temps go right down. When I get back on the move I turn off the heat and every things ok.

I also do that as part of the cool down process before I shut it off.

Newbie here. I know this is old but I want to install the Evo 8 Intercooler, Do I have to remove the crash bar? I'm not sure if you can install the I/C without removing the crash bar.

Yup, crash bar has to go...so don't get into a wreck on the front end, or you probably will end up with a "totaled car".

I made some changes, small stuff:
Put different clips in so the fans are snugger to the radiator.
Changed the coolant out again with the heater running this time so I got ALL of it out.
Moved some of the intercooler pipes a little so air flows better.

I e-mailed a company near me here in austin called streetrays, who sells Koyo radiators for the Evo for like 400 bucks or whatever. I'm going to just buy one of those and see if it helps....I can't really see it hurting. It's thicker than even the evo one I think, if the evo one really is thicker than ours, and it's supposed to "hold" more coolant, so that ought to do well too.

Also...the thermostat I stuck in there, I think it was wrong, because the manual has a "jingle thing" that it says to position up top. My replacement does not have that little jingle device, so I might order a oem thermostat, and put it in when I get the Koyo radiator.

It hasn't overheated this weekend also, mostly because I haven't been in stop and go traffic, but also because I think the fan getting pulled tighter to the radiator allows more air to flow through the radiator and not waste it going outwardly.

Yeah, I had a look at the megan, the mishimoto, and the koyo. Everyone seems to recommend the Koyo just slightly higher than the others, as far as quality goes....so I'm thinking 200 vs 400 bucks no big deal if it's gonna last a long time.
