RRM Short Ram Intake discussion thread
Gains are something hard to really calculate, if you remove a stock setup, what you really doing is recovering horse power vs. creating it thru any special effect or technology. This is where all these claims about 2 stage this or vortex that.
In my opinion, a short ram in essence is to remove restriction and provide open mouth air access to your engine (number 1). When you play with different designs you may get a further boost in performance if its done correctly, different engines differnet cars and setups make the results vary.
Drop ins in general are designed to allow air to flow better thru a stock setup, again more HP recover but not as much as a SRI with my experience that is. I cant really comment on the WORKS drop in cause i havent had a chance to use it. But their dyno results and project work speaks for itself as a worthy option.
Same would go for the Version one of the RRM brand, they have sold it, havent had any serious problems to date thats been reported, and it does recover horsepower. Their announced efforts are good to hear, as they try to improve on the current design and create more horsepower thru better design.
The problem people who are new to tuning is that they select the wrong upgrades for the wrong application / driving use. Or the dont under stand the drawbacks of what they are buying.
If your someone who is concerned with performance then i suggest you dyno the car parts yourself, these dynos are based on a stock setup. They do not account for changes to multiple upgrades, when you get into Pulleys, Intakes, Exhausts, of different types they all have a +/- minus factor on certain aspects of performance.
I have seen many cars in my time some done well, some done not so well, but you always meet a guy who is always *****ing that his ride just isnt fast enough off the line or responding like he wants it to, But looking at his setup, he had all the wrong mods, it was claiming to a warrior and the sword you carry weighs 3 times what is should, you can swing it around, it can do alot of damage but its not balanced, you cant use it effectivly, and if you keep going at that rate your going to hurt yourself!
Something to think about.
Cheers

Well said. The dyno game is sometimes getting played on people here. I remember a Magnaflow banner that stated the h.p. gains of their catbacks on it. THe numbers were 3 times what we had personally experienced. No one questions it cause it is Magnaflow. If a panel filter is claiming 7+ h.p. on a Lancer then I feel really good about the numbers from our SRI with far less restriction than a stock snorkel with an aftermarket panel.

BACK TO THE SRI
So Rob do you think that we could have added 8-9 more HP with your intake?
8-9 is fair estimate for our intake. Again if peole are claiming that much from a panel filter then we have no issue claiming 8-9. As for exhaust, a dual is possible but we need to see the demand for it before we make one. Also we are working on a rear lip so we may make something that will accomodate a dual.

yeah ill put a deposit down for a nice dual exhaust and a lip kit that covers the stock cutout and adds two others. i could only imagine how much that would be if most axle backs are like 350 but it would look really nice and sound even better.
hey, im new here and im thinkin about getting an 08 lancer es and i was wondering what RRM plans on making different with the 2nd version - design? shape? angle? size? etc.
and how does the RRM's intake fit but not fujitas on both cvt and manual?

another question, will RRM make something like this : http://stores.speedcorps.com/Detail.bok?no=294
for their SRI? i think itd b perty useful
course i duno crap x_x
