EVO 8 body kit on Lancer ES 02-03
Hey what do you all think of a V8 AWD? I found the drivetrain for it for 650$ The front end work would seem endless. But it would be 100x more custom. Any input on whether i should add another month to the project or not. Its the drivetrain from an 90's Bravada which shares almost everything with the typhoon and syclone. And my 350 will bolt right to the transmission, so everyone says.
Well that is now what i am debating. I could always do it later though, because the engine will swap over with the awd tranny and transfer to the rwd tranny and vise versa. It would add probably another month to the project though. It will handle way better with the awd but i can drift with the rwd haha.
so what have you planned to do about the front crossmember? Its in the way of the engine or tranny. Oh also what about the steering assembly? that also goes through that crossmember.
Have you considered your going to need to custom in a specific steering box? + cut the center out of that crossmember then rebuild it around your tranny or engine depending on where it sits?
Then your going to need to cut out a portion of the firewall + chassis to fit the drivetrain and re sheet metal everything?
I still dont see you doing this in 3 months or 4 months for this awd version. I'm having a professional shop take care of my rwd conversion who budgeted for at least 100 hours or more and thats only using the outlander awd rear end. Not the crazy idea you have with using the other suspension components.
Another tip is please dont hack it together with rushing it or in experience, I'd hate to see you kill yourself when your car falls apart around you.

Depending on how the awd is set up and the rwd. Usually the awd will go through a corner at a faster rate. But yes i have considered MANY details and would hate for it to fall apart. So everything will be done right with the right supports and where they need be. Everything will be welded at best. It wont be the lightest Lancer, but it will get the job done haha. Next week im pulling the engines. So anyone who needs a lancer engine or trany or suspension parts, let me know.
Again no. RWD cars are still held up as the best sports car out there because they fully separate the steering wheels from the power wheels. AWD cars can get out of a corner faster but they can suffer from understeer (since the fronts can get overwhelmed more readily).
just stick with the outlander drivetrain. install the evo head on the 4g64 and you will have your awd cheaper and faster. you are going to get sick of it and sell your car if you keep doing what your are duing.
Well i see what you mean, thats why i would love to own the Subaru STI with the adjustable transfer. But its almost too late now, I have already bought the donor and started pulling the wires from it. So im down that 8$, but im going to sell all the stock drivetrain soon. And I'm doing a few other small things, with other people's cars to get some extra money. Than I am buying the rebuild kit for the V8 and buying my new welder!
