Measurements are somewhat meaningless, just because an engine may seem to be the right size doesn't mean it will actually fit. There are things that can get in the way that you wouldn't notice unless you take very exact measurements/mock fit the motor in the bay itself. You also have to worry about how everything will work together, meaning the motor, the transmission, and any parts attached to those items.

Thank you Tikiman! Headaches for sure. But I found a chevy caprice with the LT1 with everything needed but i may do a different rear end with it.

You really dont know what your getting into here...

For it to work this is what I think needs to happen at the very least.

Firewall needs to be cut wide open to fit longitudinal tranny and new metal needs to be welded around said area+ reinforced for structural integrity.
You'll need to swap the gas tank out for a outlander awd tank
your going to need to get awd outlander trailing arms+ outer cups or have fun redesigning the entire rear end. You better be a mechanical engineer if you do this since its not a simple cut and paste process. I saw a thread once with a integra with a engine swapped into the trunk where the guy custom made the entire rear end... so much measuring made my brain hurt.

then good luck wiring everything up, some ecu's go into limp mode if they cannot connect to factory spec sensors and such so have fun dealing with those issues.

then I hate to burst the $1500 mark, either shortening your driveshaft or getting a custom one will probably consume close to 50% of that mark.

Then what are you doing about engine mounts?... also keep in mind the front subframe of the lancer sits farther back then in mustangs and other rwd cars. So have fun figuring that out.

My prediction, you waste money and butcher the car to the point of scrap.

To be honest from the pics in your album, all I see is a big hack job. Your fender, headlight and hood gaps are massive and way off. And you have a evo rear bumper squished onto the lancer rear quarters and bondo'd...

Get out of dream land....

There is no bondo on the car anywhere, thanks. I know it is going to be a ***** of a project. But im willing to do so. I have been adjusting things on the whole front all week so they do line up perfect with the smallest gaps. But thanks for the support, I also have a friend who does driveshaft work so im not worried about that the only thing i have an issue with is the tranny fitting and the wiring, the rest will be way easier. I just asked what you thought of the idea. Obviously no one has done it to a non evo Lancer. So i would like to be the first.

how about we just leave this kid to it. and in 3 months he can post an update of his progress.
which we all know will be zero. In fact he will probably just stop posting on the forums altogether

If you say "Maybe" we could for sure believe you. Because thats more ideal. Saying it will be done for sure in 3 months sounds like this will happen for sure and if it doesn't than it'll make you look bad. If you say "Maybe it will happen if everything falls into place" that sounds more reasonable. You have to understand the circumstances and all the things in the way before actually thinking it will and could happen. I have no doubts and hope to see results.

Read the begining of where i started on this post> I told you what i was doing to my Lancer and for how much, I have done eactly that! Actually I have only spent 2,500 on it so far including the price of the car. I changed my mind about selling it and putting a turbo kit on it, because I want to do something unique and completely different. My car will never drive the way an evo does, but it will look like one and be 100X more custom than most evo's out there. Let alone completely changing the Lancer ES standard. No one has done a V8 in it and/or the body conversion. So why cant i go an extra 6 miles and do something no one else has. Me being only 19 having my own house and 2 cars, Im at least smarter than most idiots. **** you guys who dont believe, I will show you I can do it. Thank you people who can support hard work and something completely different.

This attitude right here is why so many of us are pessimistic at best. Nobody does a project like this out of spite nor do they have naive aspirations that they can somehow do massive amounts of custom work for less than the average bolt-in turbo kit. This is why so many people who try this caliber of work never post again, they set themselves up for failure. Not only have you said you'll do it but you've given yourself an extremely restrictive budget and a basically impossible time frame. To put it into perspective, the best mechanical teams in the world would struggle to pull off what you are suggesting in the time frame you have given yourself. There is a reason why rally teams take months upon months to get their cars even close to where they want them to be. So far no one who has posted is against custom work, they simply feel you are going into a gun fight with a twig and some grand attack plan you heard about on wikipedia. At the moment you haven't done anything extraordinary, I'm sorry to say it. You have pictures of things that you yourself admit others have done. Guess what, I had Evo Recaros in my Lancer too along with the steering wheel and gauge cluster. The outside is just a matter of buying parts, again, not unique. You've bolted on parts, not redesigned the wheel. I know I am coming off harsh but I'm seriously concerned that you are going into something you can't handle. This isn't meant to be insulting, no one who has posted is capable of it either.

^^ completely right. i origonally wanted just a simple turbo kit on my car. then i told everyone i was going to go big.. i never thought the cost of my custom one off turbo kit would have cost me as much as it ended up being. origonality can go from a hard project to a extremely expensive project very fast.

if you have a big pocket and can afford the 2-3k or even more of a jump on cost of any project, go for it. other wise you might be left with a junk pile of a cut up car and multiple motors jsut sitting everywhere..(any motor swap will cost you a few grand in parts, and a few more in any type of labor needed to get it working or installed)

(oh and a v8 RWD evo and also a v8 rwd Lancer have both been done, i use to have some links to the pictures and videos but i dont anymore) very unique, but i doubt its worth it in the long run..

Again if you take a look at the link I posted earlier, http://www.mitsubishicarclubcanada.c...read.php?t=541
the "Full" body conversion IS being done both in canada and overseas it looks like. I've yet to see your evo rear doors and evo quarter panels. Anyone can bolt on the evo fenders headlights and front bumper with a bit of finess.
Your right you proved us wrong about getting all your parts for a good price and staying on budget, but were all discouraging you about this crazy idea now beacause of how ridiculously involved and hard a swap of that magnitude is.

Again what are your plans for the rear end? are you using awd outlander components or doing a custom rear subframe?
how to you plan on keeping everything inline when you start cutting out the stock suspension points...

what are you mounting the rear diff to?

how are you mounting the engine, transmission and bracing the chassis once the firewall is cut?

all of these questions need to be addressed even before you start buying parts.

Good luck is all I have to say
