Focus RS
That looks more like an air compressor. Car doesn't come with a spare (like a lot of new cars) so a good amount of oems are starting to put fix a flat and air compressors in the trunk.
EDIT: Nope, I looked up the part number. Sony Subwoofer. Same as the Focus and Focus ST gets in the UK. (and isn't used for engine sounds).

There is supposedly a stereo amplifier back there somewhere.
"beneath the cargo floor that contains the tire repair kit, tools, stereo amplifier, subwoofer and a very small storage area" http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...ford-focus-rs/
If someone has the inclination, they could trace the wiring diagrams back from the fuse.

You just wine and b!tch like a 12 year old girl about every little thing. There is no "extra weight" to play sound through the speakers. There is likely only a couple extra wires from the ECU that connect to the existing amp or stereo unit to play the sounds they want. Even if it is a little block box, its going to be 2-4lbs at most. And, EVERY car does this in this price range these days. Get over it.
Have we already *****ed about the driving modes and how it opens a valve in the exhaust and changes the suspension dampening based on your selections?
"Oh this is BS, I want race car ALL THE TIME DAMMIT, why would Ford do something so stupid? SO NOT BUYING THIS NOW"
Even though hundreds of other cars have had this same feature for probably over a decade now...
Le Sigh

Found a local dealer with an RS not yet spoken for. I think literally every possible option, including a car cover.
$42,650. No deposit from me, but I do get first right to see/refuse if nobody else puts a deposit on it. Every other dealership in Nashville is sold out via deposits.

I am sticking to my guns. Synthesized engine sounds played through the car's stereo is stupid.
Disagree? So if it was "optional equipment" you would select it? How much would you be willing to pay for your race car soundtrack?

No way to really know until someone removes it and weighs it. I suspect its tied into the trunk subwoofer (that looks "odd") see 36:08 in this video 2016 Ford Focus RS Mk.3 - In-Depth Review, Full Test, Test Drive and Drift - YouTube
