It looks like half of the seven or eight people (that gave any reasoning) in that thread voted for it. Not that it makes much difference (who knows their qualifications). The only reason i see to go with a taller gear is so you don't have to shift into 5th at the drag strip. Even then, it's going to hurt acceleration unless you have a ton of torque to push the car. I guess running out of 4th or using 5th hurts the ET more than having to use the taller gear, so what is a drag racer to do?
I'd just by a Camaro.

Yup...Maro...off for my mullet cut!!!.....
merica
So to sum things up instead of arguing car bowling ...did Ford mess up the RS gearing for eco rather then performance.....discuss

I admit that I don't know why Ken Block is supposed to make me want to buy a Focus RS.

BTW, I think the link I posted to the the SH-AWD system was misinterpreted. I think the previous SH version could handle more power. I think they said the current SH system is operates much like the Focus RS, i.e. 100% clutch pack driven. I do think the article on SH-AWD helps explain a lot about the hows and whys of the Ford Focus RS setup.
Not related to above but an GKN interview (rehash):

And an interesting quote, from another article, on the Focus RS parts and differentiation from the Evoque (somewhat contrary to what Ford said):
...“When Ford came with us for their demands for the car, we knew exactly what it had to deliver,” says Moelgg. Interestingly, GKN has spent plenty of time benchmarking the performance of VW’s mercurial 296bhp Golf R as the 4x4 hot hatch to beat. The RS3 and A45? Not so much…
“Software control is the big thing here,” says Kuczera. Essentially, the physical components from the Focus RS are nigh-on identical to that of an Evoque, or XC90. It’s the computer code, the algorithm that’ll tell that car how to behave, how to manage its power, that differs.
It’s a whole new way of tuning a car’s handling. “We can do a lot with mechanics, but how you computer-control it is really the key. The software gives the vehicle its unique characteristics”...

I have driven my focus RS. And tried all the settings.
Here are my findings
First of all left foot braking in a 4wd slide does not work. If you slide the car and touch the brake pedal you will have a front wheel drive car for short moment. You're car wil go immediately in an under steer situation and that's dangerous! You should control the speed of you're 4wd drift with you're left foot on the brake and right foot on throttle and keep on sliding. Also you can get the under steer away of your car with a dab on the brake mid corner. That's how you control a 4wd car!
I really like the gkn diff. But the focus RS screams for a front mechanical diff. The front end is searching for grip and sometimes you can feel the car braking the front wheels with tc off. I like to have zero interference when I drive my car on the limit. Tc off must be really off!
Cheap solutions like an ediff is a big downer! Audi vw are all using it and it's boring! It does not belong in a performance car!
I just hope we get a software update for the left foot brake! And please give us a mechanical front limited slip diff! Maybe an option to build it in after delivery. Performance parts option.
Handbrake is perfect!
Here is a sort clip of a slide I did!
