Tow Rigs, What do you have/use?
Hey Ben
You should get the specs on that trailer. Every trailer has a recommended 5th height that will let it operate properly. It appears to me that the 5th height is too high which means the axles will not be loaded evenly. In this case the rear axle will likely see more load than the front
Also, Can you extend the landing gear fully to lift the trailer off the 5th?
Anyway, thats just how it looks in the pic. I could be wrong

so after a somewhat close call on track today besides looking at rollcages and other safety equipment to add asap i am now pondering trailers and giving up the arrive and drive dream.
of course an enclosed trailer would be awesome, but i doubt i can spend that much money.
realistically, does anyone have any recommendations of brands/styles of trailers to look at that could possibly be had USED for say sub $3k? would be great to have/be able to add a winch and maybe even some sort of tire rack. tow vehicle is a 2010 silverado 2500HD with cummins.
ive tried the uhaul route and its just too difficult to get the car on the trailer to be worth it.

I'm curious about people's trailers. I think the minimum I'd need is something that will allow me to easily load a lowered Evo, and has a winch so I can pull it up if she's broken. I'm thinking open trailer, I have a longbed truck so I don't need extra storage space on it.
What rating axles do I need? What brakes are good? How much should I pay? How long? Is a used trailer a good idea or bad?

I ordered a cheapie steel open deck two rail trailer from Carson and requested 8' ramps.
Added bonus of a trailer with an opening down the middle is that you have a mobile lift at the track if you need to get at anything on the underside of the car.
When loading the car I also use a set of low rise plastic ramps (like rhino ramps, but lower angle) and that is enough to get my PPIHC evo on the trailer without pulling any body work off. Also helps to stuff a jack under the trailer jack and give it a few pumps to lower the rear edge of the trailer another couple inches.
Here's a shot of the car so you can see about how much the splitter sticks out. IIRC its about 3.5" off the ground.

I'm now starting to look for an enclosed 2-car unit and my big worry is finding something that has ramps that are even longer, as I suspect jacking up on the tongue isn't going to be as effective.

My buddy in Philly has a trailer for sale. I think he said 1500 or something. I can put you in touch if you'd like. PM me kiddo!
