i just ordered a 30' trailer with extra interior height. this will give me a 7'+ door over a more typical 6'-6'6" door and make the ramp longer. if needed i will get a set of race ramps or make an aluminum diamond plate ramp extension.

what brand of trailer are you looking at? how long?

I've seen some trailers that have 3-4' flaps on the door, so thinking that a 6'6" trailer with such an add on should be better than what I have now. I'm towing with a 2002 GMC 2500 with the Duramax/Allison combo. Thinking that keeping the trailer shorter will help with the fuel mileage from not sticking too far up over the top of the truck with topper.

Mainly looking to carry two rally cars to an event out of state, but possibly also Evo and 95 M3 to time attack events. From car length measurements I need 30' of floor space for the cars, so that leads me to believe I need at least 32' of floor space. I have been looking at 34' v-nose trailers, seems like most of the companies that make those are in Georgia for some reason.

That looks like it's really loading the rear end of the truck. Is that okay?

Really? Looks to me like it's barely weighted at all, and given that the heavier car is behind the trailer axles, it's probably pretty light on the 5th wheel.

Maybe it's just the viewing angle.

Definitely a big trailer & load for that type of pickup IMO. That truck tow limit is somewhere in the 12K area I think

Ben, not haten on your setup BTW. I maybe hiring your services for a trip to Willow / Button =)

i have a 2001 chevy silverado 1500 ext cab 6' bed RWD 4.8L V8, my question is i have never towed any thing with it (only had the truck 9 months) i plan on renting a Uhaul flat bed trailer and hauling my Evo from DC to Detroit this weekend. every thing i find online says it can handle 7200lbs just fine, i don't know the specs on the trailer and my evo shouldn't be to much over 3500lbs (full weight). Does any one know if i should look into trailer brake, distribution hitch or any thing else when getting the trailer? is any one familier with this truck or towing with it?
thanks in advance,

You will be fine, you have a half ton pickup. Weight distributing hitch and trailer brakes are always a good idea, especially for towing long distance and through hilly areas, but not required imo. I have a good friend that towed his R35 (much heavier than evo) on an open deck trailer with his 97 chevy 1500 and it did fine. Just keep your speeds down (keep it below 65 mph), and give plenty of room in front of you since you dont have trailer brakes. Plan on getting about 25-30 percent worse fuel economy than usual, and keep an eye on tranny/engine temps through any hills/mountains. FWIW, i towed my evo, tools, extra wheels and tires etc with a 2wd Armada, and it did just fine, even through the mountains of southeast TN, north Georgia on my way to Road Atlanta. Your truck probably has a beefier rear suspenion than my armada did.

The truck should have the power to pull it just fine. Do those trailers have brakes? If not, that's what will suck the most. If they do have brakes, then a controller is a worthy investment.

AirLift bags really helped my half ton alot, but that may be because I'm running coil springs in the rear (Suburban).

You should definitely get a class IV or V hitch. Doesn't need to be fancy. Make sure the 4 pin trailer light plug is present and working (if you don't have one, get one ).

Something along those lines will do fine.

The UHaul trailers won't have brakes on them, so that's moot. Your truck should be fine stopping a ~5000 lb trailer and your route is not particularly hilly. Take it easy (e.g. go slower) going downhill through PA.

Yeah when I went to the scales I still pretty far from maxing out my rear tires as far as load

Right over 8ft I believe

On that set up I crossed the scales with truck, trailer, and load right over 20,XXXlbs
