You definitely need a brake controller of some sort. I dont think the Jeep has a built in one and legally you have to have one over something like 1500lbs. I never needed any sort of sway control but load distribution hitch is a night/day effect on stability.

Or a hybrid of the two up front. When I jumped up to a 24ft flying brick I started to notice some issues on windy days or when semi's pass by. Nut shrinkage was happening even with a 3/4 ton but it's only a single wheel not a duelly.
https://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Dist...y/HT32217.html This one I use does 100% of the weight disto job and about 65% of the anti-sway as compared to a proper dual pad setup. The big ones are just too much of a hassle when you need to back up. If you jump into this try going for an electric jack that has a manual backup option too.

used to race with a guy who owns the local hitch/trailer/towing shop. when i went down from a f450 to a f350 single wheel i asked him what the best hitch was and he recommended this one:
We should have a trailer thread(granted I didnt search if there is one already). Going to be in the market for a trailer in the next couple months. But seeing some cheap 18' steel ones used on Facebook. Would love to go enclosed if its financially feasible.
Probably going to get a steel open trailer tomorrow. 18ft too big? They also have a 16ft The car is about 15 ft. I suppose 18 leaves room for tires and a toolbox right? Any thoughts?
Agreed, I'd go at least an 18' personally. I went with an 18' and it works well for my evo and I have a toolbox up front that occupies probably 18-24". I wouldnt have minded a 20' as since getting it I've had other vehicles on the trailer as well.18' is just far more common and I picked up 2nd hand.
Also, personally Im not a huge fan of open deck trailers as in open in the middle. If you're like me and end up on random Craigslist adventures having a trailer to haul misc things makes it that much more convenient.
I went with the Econo open steel trailer with the 15ft runway. If I could go back and do it again, I would have definitely gotten the 18ft runway. The 15ft setup works, but for reasons mentioned above, the extra room for tools, tires, etc is nice.

I think by open he meant not an enclosed trailer. But I agree, a full deck makes the trailer wayyyy more useful.

I don't think we need a tire rack. I'd rather have the extra weight in the truck rather than on the trailer. Making a front shield for the trailer should be pretty easy for the one you sent me.
I'm not a fan of being jerked around by a heavy trailer so I'm more proponent to putting more weight in the truck than loading up a trailer.
A tire rack is useful if you carry a set of wets or an extra set of slicks for a long weekend. I know my truck is full when I head out for a weekend. I don't have room for an extra set of wheels/tires in the truck.

Even with my 5.5' shortbed I can fit 2 sets of wheels and tires. I can fit all my tools and spare parts in the back seat with no issue. There's always plenty of space in the car as well if need be.
