My issue went away (for the most part, only does it going up my steep a$$ driveway now) after I put the stock pipe and airbox back in, so I would think it had a lot to do with it. Could just be my imagination... No, no, it def drives better.

my intake setup is kinda like a hybrid right now. I've had a bunch of different configurations between open element filters and stock air box. This weekend I just started to construct what I call a true CAI, its an idea I've had for a couple years and is part of the intake/oil cooler/brake cooling duct setup I did last year.

Its basically the stock air box hacked up to act as a heat shield with the perrin filter. The air-box is forced fed air from two different areas. my thinking is that the shielding will keep the air as close to ambient as possible while still allowing for maximum flow. The cool thing is that to the casual observer it looks just like an OEM intake setup.

In March I'm going to do some logging using the IAT sensor in the MAF to see if it makes any real difference in keeping the air cooler.

I got my hands on some silicone hoses to lead air up to my intake, kind of like what you did. But I also have the APS intake pipe that I'd like to try out.

You were much closer last week, I actually pulled a bit of a gap on you, it was within 15 or so at one point.

is the APS intake the one that puts the filter down where teh IC sprayer is? I would love to get my hands on an ARC box or even that CF box you have been using and see what the difference in incoming air is. I really believe an open element filter with shielding is the way to go, but time/testing will

That's the one. Have you seen the ARC box? It doesn't provide any heat shielding, so I'm not sure that's what you're looking for. It's basically an aluminum box with panel filters on 2 or 3 sides.

I have. I'm still curious to see what/if any difference there would be with a box like the ARC.

I think heat shield, cool air ducting, and a velocity stack makes for a good intake. The velocity stacks actually makes a pretty big difference. I have plans to hack about 2 inches off of the piping on the APS intake, and welding a Vibrant velocity stack at the end. The problem I'm running into is finding a decent filter that fits a 6 inch O.D housing.

I agree. I learned not to discredit velocity stacks from my NA drag racing days. The problem with stuff like this though is that sometimes gains aren't shown on a dyno the same way they're shown at the track.
