I'd try both; raising and decreasing timing by 2. See which one gets rid of the knock.

Ok, I think I'm completely done converting everything over to Tephra's rom. Will be running these maps asap when I get home from work. What do you guys think?

93oct, Mods in sig. @29lbs tapering to 27lbs at redline. Afr's 12ish spool, 11.5 mid tapering to 10.9ish at redline.

Looks good to me, you dont need to run as rich as 10.9 imo though, I dont go any richer than 11.1

My car doesn't seem to like timing up top, only at 9 degrees, and I have a small flat spot just before peak boost. I'm wondering if my bov is starting to leak at that point, EGT's also rise very high, maybe the turbo is working overtime to try and obtain the boost level due to the leaking bov. The Intercooler is probably not coping with the high temps and so I'm getting quite a hot charge of air coming in to combust, which won't like timing. Any thoughts, comments to my reasoning?

+1. Power really drops off once you go below 11. I do it on purpose past 7k though. I only use 7 to 7.5k only if it means I can avoid upshifting right before a corner.

Btw don't use my AFR or boost curve in ^ as a model. It was quiet bad, its much better now.

I'm in the same situation, my car is a evo VIII JDM, I'm in the process of tuning, It knocks above 5000 rpm, to the point that I thought it was knocking because timing was too low.

So I added some, so it was smooth from 3-4 at peak torque, to 9-10 at high rpm, but it knocked a lot more. So I'm going to lower it again, till I get no knock, and not care about it being too low

Could this hurt the performance?

I see cars with the same turbo, same boost, and basically the same fuel running nearly double the timing up top.

I'd say it would hurt performance with the low timing, but if the car won't run it, there must be something else wrong. I'm suspecting the bov starts leaking about 20psi. Its an Evo8MR one, same as an Evo9. What bov are you running?

It's and rs (I think), I'm running The Evo 9 metal bov, should I do a boost leak test?

Boost is set at 23/25 peak dropping at redline

thanks again all, bumping down 2 or one in target area removed knock.
uh oh, now I'm in trouble that I have a little knowledge...
Learning this is very rewarding though. @ least I'll have a better understanding of basics...

Yea, do a boost leak test.

I'm going to do some testing today, but I plan on running low boost and see what I can do with timing, and gradually increase the boost each run and see what happens. Probably going to buy a Synapse DV thou.

Just have a quick question. Does the knock count work at all loads and rpms? I have thrown a crap load of timing to my map in the 2500-4000rpm range with no knock. I did lose power in that area though do to too much timing. Just wondering why no knock. BTW its on 93 pump gas only. Since then I have backed timing off in that area.

There's a minimum load for knock detection.
