Ouch, that looks bad. I hope you figure it out and see what the problem was with that. Is there a gasket between the vbands?
This could be whats happening to yours. Id check it out

There was no gasket in between turbine housing and cartridge (between the v-band) that I could find. Should there be? I inspected the turbine housing where it seals at the turbo and everything looks good there. I need to get a mirror and inspect the bottom of the cartridge where it was leaking at to see what that looks like.

And are you serious about the billet WGA? That's a bummer, it looked nice. I still have the stock WGA from my 8 turbo, should I use that? How much difference do you think the FP would make over the billet or 8 stock WGA?

It's bad enough that it scorched the outside of the band and left soot marks inside. I could also smell a strong exhaust smell under boost despite having no other leaks I could find.
I contacted Kinugawa by email today, any ideas what could be the problem?

That is not an exhaust leak my friend, that is burned assembly lube from manufacturing, mine had the same, that's why you can see the stain looks like a puddle on both sides, an exhaust leak will look more black and powdery looking, i disassembled mine before i even put it in the first time and did notice a lot of assembly lube Try preloading the wg actuator , that did the trick for me, and no, the evo 8 actuator don't work, i already tried.

Good info, how about preloading the evo 8/9 actuator via actuator mod? https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...pring-mod.html

Have you already fully adjusted the wastegate? The springs will work too

Thanks, that's essentially what George at Kamak told me too. I did notice on the other side of the v-band there are soot marks, so maybe I was just focusing my attention on the wrong spot. Either way, they are sending me a revised v-band clamp with a 'better clamping angle' so I am looking forward to trying that.

As far as WG preload goes, I am running a 14psi spring and going for 26-30psi so I've heard it might be a good idea to get a stronger spring. I have the GM 3-port boost control solenoid though so I don't know if that's as important as the preload. George said it should be about 'half a hole' of preload and I know it's nowhere near that now.

That's a good idea to try, Kinugawa sent me a 25 psi one which solved my problem, let us know if you try it.

Turbo came in today and i bolted her all together. My intake also came in. Just waiting on my intake manifold to get here and she'll be ready to get tuned. I did a dry fit of the turbo/manifold/o2 dump and it appears there is a fitment issue somewhere.

I can already see that the stock oil drain line is not going to fit. I may have to end up cutting the line in half and connecting it with some high pressure/high temp hose.

Also, from the looks of it when it was on there and i'm not for sure it I am certain but it appears that the square side of the compressor cover was hitting the block. It may just be because of the drain line and o2 dump weren't seating right.
Has anybody had any kind of fitment issues like that?

Here's a few pics the goodies.

some of the port work. they didn't go very deep but at least it's gasket matched and smoothed a bit.

step by step...
description of 1st step problem >>> https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/10825315-post431.html
kunugawa td06 25g with billet wheel, 11.5cm hotside, antisurge and billet actuator.
kinugawa sent set of spring 1.5bar, 1.7bar and 2.0 bar
boost controlled by ecu with grimspeed 3port solenoid
i'v put 2.0 bar and on boost off(0% wgdc) i had only 1.1bar of boost
on 100% wgdc i had 1.8 bar
BUT! look at log

No matter what wgdc i set in range 0 to 4k rpm, boost hit only 0.8 bar(12psi).
maybe someone faced with such a problem?

Boost leaks? Pre turbo exhaust leaks?
