this is coming outta nowhere but i have to somehow feel that this whole truth squad thing was conceived explicitly to check and balance these mindless followers of the vendors, people that just let hte vendors say whatever and then they say, OH YEAH YOU'RE KING, OH YEAH WE VALUE SO MUCH WHAT YOU'VE DONE FOR THE COMMUNITY, YOUR INTELLIGENCE IS GREATER THAN THAT OF ANYONE, YOUR PRODUCT IS WONDERFUL.

i'm biased... yeah i am from socal... in the end socalevo is my home. chances are... there's MORE bull on socalevo... you can't go through any threads without some of the "cool" guys blastin' at each other, you can't find any threads where people aren't making fun of goku racing in the dirt, you can't find a lotta things, but there's one thing i'm thankful that you CAN'T FIND FOR SURE.

you can't find tuning tech or roadrace coming on the threads and tryinna peddle ****, you can't find any of the vendors saying look at how great our product is, it's so great you gotta buy it, it's the only way!

we're all rre fanboys here in socal it's almost a prereq... but what we recommend is always objective, we just tell you to consult rre or get it done at rre. you ask about a bov... there's guys on socal that like 'em and guys that say stay stock. you ask about intakes, there's guys that have 'em and don't mind, and guys that say get a panel or stay stock. you ask about safc, we tell you how to tune it. you ask about flashes, we say well... if you gotta get one, here's the downsides and if it's only once, hey... might be for you. you ask about suspension... yeah we tell you to go ask john. in socal the community keep the vendors alive cuz their product and service speaks for itself.

people go to forums to get educated, it's dumb, but it's true, the internet is an EASY medium to get a lotta information be it useful or not. when we stop EDUCATING PEOPLE so they can make their own INFORMED DECISIONS (much to what warr is trying desperately to vie for) and we start PRESCRIBING products JUST CUZ i'm vendor a b c, then you're no longer building a community for information, you're building a community for consumerism. mindless consumers are a problem in america...
A very well thought out and valid point (or is it an argument...lol). I can see where you are coming from!

I'm just saying, isnt it the responsibility of evolutionm.net for the content and layout of our forum?

I'm not knocking you guys for trying to do something nice for the rest of us and making searches easier. I'm just being my ****-lytical (spelling is on purpose) self and trying to learn like the rest of the community (well most of them).

Keep this in mind guys and gals "When your green your growning (meaning that if you are willing to learn and have the ability to learn then you will learn and grow) and when you are ripe, you are rotten (meaning the "know it alls" probably know a lot of information, but will never master it).

Just my opinion!

i love the fact that vendors such as Al from dynoflash, and david from bushur come on and help us out. last weeks thread on a tt flash vs a dynoflash was very useful to me and i think useful to everyone who read it. it taught people about open loop and closed loop and exactly how a flash works and what it offers. this type of input is why i come to evom. i look for intelligent conversations like this. but those who are just concerned with they way there car looks, or how their bov's sound still should not be frowned on.
so again i will agree that an advanced section should open, and if the mods along with the truth squad want to run that, i think it would work great.
this forum may have its quirks, but i still feel that it is far superior to some others out there. try clubrsx.com and see how intelligent their site is and come back over here first.

OMG who stole my IDEA!!! yes my idea. I called Warrtalon aka "Truth" way backk. And now they have the truth squad. Yea ok... it was my idea. SO that would be a direct violation of the law. So whoever joined this group, must give their evos' and hand it over to the correct authority which is me .

For those of us who have been here on EvoM a long time (think since 2001 or so).... anyone remember Claudius? French guy, I think, drove a TME6? When the Evo first hit the shores here he was one of the premier "go to" guys for information on this site. Sadly, a lot of the "fighting" with new vendors on the scene and newbies in general ended up causing him to leave the site. He then went back to Lancer Register, and though I haven't been there in awhile he may still be there.

That being said, I remember at the time we had a number of Claudius authored FAQs for upgrades. It was pretty basic, but they were stickied posts that showed a very basic upgrade for the Evo. There was one for engine, one for suspension, etc. As a newbie at the time, those FAQs were pretty invaluable. I learned a good lot from them, and when Claudius left EvoM I was actually a bit distraught that we had lost one of our best resources at the time. Since then, lots of people have stepped up to the plate to fill his shoes - which only indicates that there are many out there with the intelligence and the ability to make this site incredibly informative.

I think this Truth Squad in theory is excellent - what is key here is good self moderation, or else you risk becoming what you're trying to stop - overly opinionated and biased people spouting what you believe to be "the best."

I think you guys should have two goals in this:

1) As timzcat suggested before me, those final members in this group should get together and write some basic stickied articles as far as parts go. These should be articles, and not threads (think How-To section). If someone has information he deems important enough to go onto the article, or if the authors forgot something, it'd be better to PM them and have that added to the article. IMHO, we shouldn't clog up the sticky with a bunch of responses. If possible, it'd be best to have a sticky on each particular topic that are brought up by newbies on this site (exhaust, BOVs, intake come to mind).

For example, you can have an exhaust sticky to talk about exhaust theory. Talk about what makes or kills a good exhaust (i.e., sharp bends, resonators, neck downs, diameter) and anything that can effect an exhaust's performance. You can make specific references to particular brands when talking about each of those, such as, stating that nearly all JDM exhausts neck down to 2.5" or 2.75" to mate up with the stock cat. Attached pics would also greatly help.

Then, you can have a sticky about intakes - and let's be honest and objective here - intakes are a pretty controversial mod here on this forum. Make that clear at the beginning, and discuss WHY it is controversial. Make sure that people understand why some of us think they are NOT beneficial. One particular reason that comes to mind is the "hot air intake" idea embraced by us Vishnu customers. But with that said DO delve into it. Discuss how untuned intakes mess with the MAF, creating loss rather than gain of power. Discuss how tuned intakes can create some power (but possibly cause loss of driveability). These results and experiences are documented enough throughout EvoM's history that these sorts of things should be included.

What you guys need to be able to do in these articles is to present a very "pros and cons" of each part. Start with the most basic stuff, even if it's general knowledge that most people should know. There are always newbies, and referring them to this FAQ, which can serve as a learning hub, should definitely improve the average level of Evo modding "knowledge" on this forum. If newbies have been referred to the FAQs and it is clear that they choose to ignore it, that they have simply damned themselves from getting any future help.

2) To bring issues to light that vendors, customers, or other people are unwilling to do. For example, serious flaws in a particular part, testing methods, yadda yadda the list goes on.

I can tell that this #2 can create lots of angst around here.. but sometimes that is what is needed to get a vendor or a shop on the move to fix issues with their products or services.

Just my .02 cents.

Yeah, I remember Claudius. He basically got ran off the board. Probably for a variety of reasons but from what I saw it was because he was already an "expert" trying to "help" American tuners who were just getting started with the Evo who basically claimed that they didn't need any help because they were already well versed with the 4G63. I'm not trying to spin it either way, I personally thought he was a pretty cool guy. But anytime someone with a certain point of view and a strong personality tries to help people, it doesn't mean it is going to be accepted even if they are in the right. Unsolicited help can sometimes cause as big an e-fight as flat out name calling. That's why although I think the intentions behind the truth squad are good, the fact that it is made up of non moderator types that participate in forums like everyone else, and "have fun" like everybody else, they aren't going to be accepted by certain people no matter what, and that it will just turn into a lot of bickering over "who is right." If its just about rank and an exclusive club then I don't think it would work. But if you guys sat down and wrote a few tech articles, collaborated on it and "published" them to EvoM as such for everyone to access, then it would probably work out better.

no one is arguing with that. but the idea is to help people succeed through the least restrictive and financially prohibitive means. sure you can recover from a mistake or a blown engine or an aftermarket blowoff valve that doesn't do anything, but it'd be nice for people to know what other people have learned the hard way from the get go.

I am in favor of many of the ideas promoted above from many members. But, none of this needs to be done in order to start Truth Squad-type activity.

Warrtalon has just started a useful, simple thread about Mitsu TSBs here:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=172039

I have started the first of many simple threads about the safety of cam gears here:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=171895

What I would expect in T-Squad threads is that 1) Self proclaimed T-Squad posters are subjecting themselves to public/"scientific" scrutiny. They should be prepared to defend their hypothesis. Also, inexperienced members who are trying to learn should do so by reading, and properly subscribing to the thread, not by posting +1, or

I must say, that my (unspoken) hypothesis on the cam gears was that less than 5% of those using them have experienced problems. Looks like that number is closer to 10%.

But who is ever going to take the blame themselves for forgetting to use loctite or even tightening them properly? I'd say that properly installed, there is ZERO percent chance of failure. At least from what we've seen and installed ourselves. The number of securing bolts essentially dictate who much margin for error is allowable (the more bolts, the more the owner can forget to tighten them)

Well, this is far from science, but I have boatload of friends I could have asked to vote (legitimately, mind you) and it would have skewed the end results easily to 97% or better having NOT failed. (Evotio, IE Evo, Gnulooks, Masterblaster, Alex Alex, MP5, Lambtron, Dustin@Vishnu, Evotomig, Jaylenospoolboy, JP98SS, etc, etc). I don't know anybody but Eric Lyubinsky apparently, who has had a problem with them.

I wish I left the poll open for a couple of weeks to really get a better sample. If the mods could extend the poll for a week or two more, maybe the sample would become more accurate.

If this ("Truth" squad) ever gets to the point of writing articles, then count me in. I pretty much already tell it the way I see it (aka. the "Truth" as seen from my viewpoint) and I have been toying with the idea of writing a basic Evo modding FAQ. IMO, one of the biggest challenges will be to present non-biased information, which will allow the reader to come to their own conclusions.

However, one thing that I don't really like is the name "Truth Squad", since contrary to most people's opinions, the word truth is a relative term, not an absolute.

Don't get hung up on the name; just focus on the idea itself. Ludikraut, we really do need to write some articles and FAQs, but it's a matter of sitting down and doing it. I would have done some already, but I'm lazy. Another thing to remember is we already have tech articles written by people like Dan@MachV that almost never get used because of where they are. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, we should leverage his hard work and make it more prominent. Right now, his articles are hidden and hard to find...even when I knew they existed, I hard a hard time finding them through the front page navigation. If I were someone who didn't know they existed, I would never have even known to look.

Yeah, sorry, just a pet-peeve of mine.

Here's an idea for any articles. Have it be a collaboration of several people, presenting all of the options, and then have each contributing author post a separate comment, explaining what they would choose and why (kind of like the tester comments in the C&D articles).

Yeah, that's in line with our thinking. Anything I write would be reviewed, edited, and appended by others, such as Smogrunner, Joeymia ( ), and Juiced.
