Factory reflashes, hesitation, stalling, and everything you need to know [merge]
I called my dealer this morning and asked them about the TSB 08-13-006, and they said they would check my VIN see if my car was affected, (VIN: JA3AW86V68U048593) and they said that my car was not one of the affected ones. (Affected VINs according to the thread are cars below JA3AW86V08U049108) So the difference is the V6 and the V0
Anyways I'm really new at cars so I'm not quite sure if my car is affected or not so if you guys can tell me how to determined if it is, or how would I know.
My car doesn't turn off at complete stop, my RPMs at rest after warmed up and driven it out and as soon as I hit the 1st stop my RPMs are like between 700-800? (not sure if that's the good point?) As for when I turn it on, my RPMs are 1300-1400 (when I first start it for the day). No CEL is shown.
Anyways like I said before, I'm really new to cars xD. This was my first manual car, so I can barely drive it alright. So I got a few questions, so if you guys wanna answer them while helping me figure out if my car is Ok, I would appreciate it. So at first gear to start off, I rev the RPMs to about 2500 RPMs and let the clutch at the G Spot and then add some more gas to it while letting go of the clutch, Is that how I'm suppose to start it off? or Should I add some more RPMs. Sometimes I get it smooth sometimes I kinna jerk a bit but no stalling. Also is it good to start driving at Gear 2? or would that be putting some stress in the engine or transmission?
Anyways hope you guys can answer my question, and yeah I'm a total newbie at this stuff xD

Well, to answer your question about driving a manual and how its done. Basically each driver have there own way to start. From a dead stop and starting is 2nd gear is ok to do but it does cause unneccessary stress on the clutch cause you have to rev a little higher.
I personally don't rev that high of rpms but to around 1300 to 1500 depending on when I start to release the clutch if it grabs or not. Sometimes on a turbo'd car the clutch engagement is not as firm as non-turbo'd cars. But you are doing it rite as far as I can tell.
Regards.
ok, so what is your best MPG and how did you drive the beast?
Sorry to ruin all your excitement guys but that average fuel thing is messed up. The reason i know this is becasue I had 7k miles on my lancer gts and now 3k miles on my Evo and about 4k of those miles have been highway driving/trips and i have messed with and tested that "average mpg" function so many times its unbelievable.
I've made 3 hour long highway trips with the cruise set at 80mph and had it report my average speed as 60mph because I drove for 3min on backroads before I got on the highway. I've seen my average speed go up from like 65-66 AFTER having exited the highway and when I'm driving ~30mph.
Lastly you can easilly make the average mpg come up as being very high. Next time your on the highway accelerate till your going pretty fast and then reset the meter (hold the "mode" button) and coast for a while. Your average mpg will start off at like 40mpg and then if you drive normally for a while it will still read some rediculously high number.
Anyway, morall of the story is that that meter sucks and you should not trust it. Its amusing to watch the "instantaneous" fuel economy but besides that its pretty useless. I can average 78mph on a 3hr highway trip as opposed to 60mph if i just reset the meter as soon as I'm up to speed as opposed to leaving it so that it averages in the ~3min i was driving before getting on the highway.
You want to know your fuel economy? then do it the old fashion way and divide the miles you've driven since your last refuel by the gallons it takes to refill the tank. I know this isn't perfect but its a helluva lot closer then that meter.
Best part is if you have the nav you can go to Info->trip and scroll down and it will tell you your distance since last refuel. just remember to check this before you start to refill the car cause it resets otherwise.

I am getting about 280 to max 300 miles on a full tank..I about floating between 21-22mpg..Thats with not fully behaving at times..But it seems to be a steady 280 till I fill it up..Thats about right before the light goes on to get gas..
seems exactly what a typical 9 would get. i tweeked my afr in cruising load/tps maps to about 15.2 --- 15.5 and i get about 25 mpg with occassional WOt
Nah, you can tell by the picture he posted that it is the US MPG. Gauge looks a little different. On the UK mpg it says 0-30-60-90...on the US version it says 0-25-50-75. It is the US MPG.

On a positive note...the new reflash seems to be working great for me. It hesitates up top still (to be expected according to the above) and this morning my car wouldn't even start
No worries. It started after 20 or so revolutions.
