have any of you guys that are experiencing a notchy transmision burn up the clutch? you can even burn the clutch on a slight hill its so easy to do.
i ask cause i my evo 8 when new had a smooth gearbox but after burning the clutch while drag racing it became notchy and to tell you more that car i made like 100+ drag passes also made 7000rpm launches and the stock clutch died out at 24,000miles.
also when cold the tranny was more notchy then when it was warmed.
sorry to hear all this complains it makes me stay away from the new gsr model.

Oh i will voice my concern once the first service comes along. I have a few things to voice alright.

I haven't gone anywhere, i have complained still. Again, its not nearly as bad, but its still an issue. My car is going in for service soon, and hopefully the local mitsu rep will be able to see it. My local service manager left, yipee, he actually went to toyota (which is what my husband has, thats how i know where he went) the new manager may>? be better assistance.

I have also had issues with the skirting ground effects, they just look crappy (loose i guess - who knows)

I have had 2 unduplicatable idle issues where i have dropped to about 400 or 500 rpm and it felt as if it were going to stall when completely stopped and no air or anything runnin?!?!

I think the first TSB for VIII synchro issues was dated in November of 2003. I'm not exactly sure when the first VIII arrived in 03, but I think it was at least 10 months prior.

It's now August and the X has been out for what, 7 months? I think by the end of the year there will be a TSB for the tranny. They're not doing anything at this piont because they aren't sure what to do. Engineers and such are trying to come up with a cheap way to fix the problem. If there even really is a legitimate problem. I'm sure they've tested fluids and such and that would be a cheap and easy fix. So that probably isn't the answer. I just hope they don't write it off as "normal design and function of a performance tranmission."

Since the manual calls for a GL 3 75W-80 gear oil, what are we supposed to use? Nobody besides mitsu markets such an oil in GL 3. Redline MTL would be a perfect choice except it's GL 4. It's also a 70W-80 oil which would probably help some of the cold shifting woes. Who knows though, maybe Mitsu did this on purpose to protect the synchro's until the oil warms up. Maybe a 70W is too thin???

My X has 7000 miles and after I hit 1500 the grinding slowly went away and it has only gotten smoother. Mine shifts nice and it shifts even nicer at 7000 rpm. : )

If the transmission grinded then I'd be worried. Mine is just notchy. I have noticed a slight improvement though at 2600 miles. + the AMS shifter bushings and Works base bushings helped a bit.

I think we could just use the same fluids that we used on the VIII, and IX.
This is just a perfect excuse for mitsubishi to use to void warranties, If anything other then oem fluids are used.

I solved most of the crunch by blipping the gas between shifts until she warms up.

im getting the same notchiness from 1st to 2nd is the worst either with the car cold or warmed up. I also have it from 2-3rd..It some how feels like my other Evos, but the 1-2nd gear sometimes crunches bad, feels almost like a grind..If it continues or gets worse, im taking it in for warranty
