^ I'm almost positive that this won't be a recall. Not everyone seems to have issues with the shifter. And recalls are mostly safety issues. There will just be a TSB with info on the updated cables and to replace them for those who complain. And in most cases, it'll take most dealerships 6 month to learn about it and you'll have to fight with them about whether such a TSB does exist. lol.

Yes, update please.

What Month and Year was the car made in as well? Maybe that has something to do with it?

Yes, I too am very interested to hear if the new cables helped.

I was talking with one of the head mechanics at my dealer last week about this very issue, and he said "that's just they way they are". Hopefully these new parts can prove him wrong...

Check this thread out. And look at the guys shifter cable. It's different than ours. That's why his AMS bushings didn't fit. Granted he's in a different country, but that shouldn't matter. I wonder if this is an updated cable?

Post Whoa?!

Here we go!

Attached is my receipt on the repairs. As you might notice it also includes a seat upholstery repair that did not pose a solution either.

The link that was posted above to the "WHY DO MY AMS SHIFTER BUSHINGS NOT FIT?" is exactly the "fix" I received on my car. His pictures are exactly what my cables look like now and yes it is DEFINITELY different parts from the factory USDM 2008 GSR set. Now, if I think it is a fix or not...I don't know yet as I have not had the car back long enough to gather any substantial info (I JUST picked the car up from the dealership and it was already warmed up from driving it around). I will drive it tomorrow morning, so expect a post sometime around then with me driving in the conditions that I normally would complain about.

I will say that the shifter feels TOTALLY different. This isn't just some crazy "I hope my car is better placebo-like" statement, it is WAY stiffer than the other setup. What I mean is, when I move the shifter around it is HEAVIER feeling...like you are pushing it through something sticky or viscous. With the factory parts, the shifter would just move easily to where you wanted it to go and now it is substantially "sludgier" feeling. It also feels like the gates have at different angle to them (very very slight) at the shifter lever. It may be stiffer, but it's also like the bushings or cables are stickier (imagine your cables with honey inside them).

This MUST be the 2009 shifter cable set...please read part numbers off if someone has one!

This revised shifting action leads me to ponder 3 things:

1) Is this just a solution to slow down the standard shifting action by making the shifter harder to throw and make me not notice the wall I was hitting when trying to get into 2nd (not that I shifted fast anyway)?

2) It's actually a revised part that fixes where the sliders are in reference to the shifter by tightening everythign up and changing geometry.

3) It's just stiff because it's not yet broken in.

So there you have it...stay tuned for tomorrow morning. I will have DEFINITE results by then.

Patrick

Thanks for the info.

Waiting to hear the results.

If that's the case , you might as well change out the tranny fluid, shifter, and bushings, then just call it a day. Might be a better fix than the one from Mitsu.

Update:

It was exactly as described. "It might not solve the problem, but it should make the shifter 'feel' better". Yes it does FEEL better, but this morning the grind is still there. But, it still feels drastically different than the stock USDM GSR shifter...So I guess I start going after a new trans now. Perhaps the 2009 trans is better too then??

So it's just probably better off to not even bother with the revised shifter linkage?

Patrick,

If you don't mind, please report back when you have had a little more time with the new cables....Did they also replace the shift levers that go inside the tranny and connect to the shift forks?

I wanna know more about the "MT shft kit" listed in the reciept.

Yes, it has new linkages that go inside the tranny to the forks. So the complete kit is: Cables, washers, bracket for cables at trans, and levers that pentrate the case from the cables to the shift rails.
