I have the same problem 2nd to 3rd notchiness .( Car's build date is Dec 2007) but it is not as severe as some of you are describing, I have about 12,000 miles on her now it started at about 3,500 and has gotten no worse or better . May want to take her in just to get it documented .
Anyone one else on here from Michigan ,
Anyone one else on here from Michigan ,
Please
Please bring your car in and get the problem documented. You should get the revised cables as well. Let's hope they don't break your center console part and super-glue it back on and not tell you.

The new cables and linkages, to me, are a placebo. Just there to make you think they had a fix for what you are feeling. Should you bring up the fact that you didn't see any improvement from this (they will use "these aren't the droids you are looking for" jedi mind tricks to defend this) you will get a meeting with a district manager or other "qualified" Evolution expert to drive your car who will tell you that the stiff / grinding / notchy shifting action is a "trait" of this car's transmission (as described to me by the district manager). If you deny that on any substantial grounds, it gets ugly FAST.
I have a nice writeup of my horrible experience thus far and will be posting it word-by-word shortly (at least my best recollection from the notes I took during conversations) as I have received NO RESOLUTION on this issue. The quick answer was: They WILL NOT be replacing transmissions for this issue because replacing it WILL NOT change the designed trait of this "racing transmission" that is toleranced for high-heat race-driving situations (I can almost quote that). Then they will be looking at your car for ANY mods or signs of even moderate abuse that might have caused this, then looking at tire wear to see how you drive it, and also looking on the internet for anything you post (I'm dead serious here), and possibly sequestering the SCCA for any entry forms (proof of racing) for any events you might have attended. They might even throw in your "racing history" and try to make that all circumstantially add up to "you drive your cars harder than most people do, so we are assuming that you have raced your car". And blammo, next thing you know, you are on a restricted warranty list and EVERYTHING done on your car under warranty will get the watchful eye review of Mitsubishi Corporate. Ask me how I know - or just wait to read the post. The honest truth is...Mitsu SUCKS at honoring thier warranty on anything expensive (let's be honest...what warranty?).
Mitsubishi's response to my situation, my friends, is what hard-working, decent people refer to as the "A Chicken **** excuse and way out of a bad application of a design". Classic corporate man-handling from the service dept. all the way up. I'm sure they will read this and I'm just letting them know that they can expect a whole lot more from me (not a threat, just think the public has a right to know).
Please remember, they did this to a customer who has owned 5 turbo, AWD Mitsubishi (or Eagle Talons). I sold my 04 EVO 8 w/ 50k mile on it and I should have kept it since it was at least PAID FOR and didn't have a warranty. I still do own a 1995 GSX as well, but I fear that it's going to somehow tarnish my wife's G35, so I will probably get rid of it as well.
Meanwhile, the MiniUSA and Mazdaspeed manufacturers are giving contingency money for SCCA autox. I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE OF THOSE!

I just bought a brand new 08 X a couple of weeks ago. The car has a build date of Feb 2008, 2nd and 3rd gear shifts are very notchy and it's not getting any better now that the car has 700 Miles on it. I'm thinking of taking it to the dealer to get checked out. Anyone have any updates on what causes this? My 2005 Subaru Legacy I just sold had almost 400whp and 60k miles on on the clock, it shifted flawlessly...This is just unacceptable for a brand new $35k car.

Yeah, I think I'll take it to the dealer to get documented at least. I'll be changing the tranny fuild with some Motul 500 when I do my first oil change to see if that helps. I'm also looking into a short throw w/ some Works bushings, I hear those are the best option as oppose to the aluminum ones.

Let me reiterate:
ULESS YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR LIKE GRANDMA, DO NOT EXPECT ANY SERIOUS WARRANTY SERVICE!
I had the same stance that you do until it came down to Mitsu's actual service theory. If you think you bought a car to leave stock and have fun with and that it would really be like that for 3 years, IT AIN'T HAPPENING! My car is 100% stock and I've got nothing but crap from them ESPECIALLY about the transmission. Regardless of the failure, they went to look into TIRE WEAR as a reason to say I drive my car harder than most and therefore damages to the tranny / etc would not be covered. I am not just talking smack here, I am serious this happened to ME.
What we bought is a tuner car that is probably tougher than most when it comes to taking mods. They are betting that we will mod them somehow so just forget about the warranty and make the car do what it SHOULD do (racecar without warranty and all). My car is still stock BTW.
Sincerely,
Patrick

Be advised that replacing your tranny fluid with anything but the OEM Mitus stuff might void your waranty. I was talking to my tech about this very issue, and had mentioned that I had thought about trying some Red Line fluid in there to see if it would help. He told me that if they looked in the tranny and found any fluid but their own, the waranty would be voided! Sucks.
Wow, and I thought my Subaru dealer was bad when It came to warranty issues.
I guess I'll hold off doing anything to my car...I just hope they don't void my warranty for having RA mud flaps.
