If the EVO IX had a DSG tranny I'd go for it. An EVO for me will be a daily driver and I don't feel like shifting all the time. Yep, I'm lazy. So for me a DSG tranny will get me to consider the EVO X. Without it, I'd pass.

Exactly... and none of these stuff are really new anyways...
Other than the weight issues...
Won't all these electronics making it that much difficult to produce a reliable car?
On the books Mitsu may show poor statements about profit, losses, however you want to look at it. But remember, it's just the car line end of the Corp. Not Mitsu as a whole. They are enormous...But having a DSG tranny won't really cost them too much to engineer, because they're not engineering it. Someone else is/did. So they will just purchase a setup that will in use with their engine and that's that.
I work for Volvo, and Volvo uses a GM tranny (4T65EV & 4T65EVGT) with Volvo's 6 cyl engine's.it's weird, but that's that. You'll pay significantly more for a DSG, but it's another proven part to come from years of testing through racing. That's what is accounted for in the Evo's we have here today.
On another note, I for one and partial to 5/6speed manual tranny's. It's a true way to experience a car. It's one of the things you can completely control. When it comes time to buy a X, and I have to chose, I may opt for the DSG. Only because I'll probably have at least a IX already with a 6MT. But then again, this is all in my own oppinion.

Just my $.02:
I like the looks but couldn't wait to just see if it did come out for the 07' model. Only professional racers benefitting from DSG? Honestly, I "enjoy" the true manual transmission like commented earlier, but....in reality, if this system is good, then especially on the street, it will be faster for shifting, and that does count some when it'll help you edge another car out in between shifts. Considering the market for most of us EVO owners, we tend to try and get the most performance out of the car. Plus with the ease of driving in traffic.
An Audi A3 with DSG can be had for about $26K out the door. If they can do it, Mitsu can do it. It's not that much more expensive than a manual shift system, probably on-par with an auto box. The big question for me is the longevity of DSG clutch plates because changing them out is going to be way more expensive and complicated.

My questions is this... Do people really think that Mitsu could offer a true DSG type of transmission and still keep the price reasonable? I mean, with all the additional technology, HP, etc that's gonna be in the X, could they really afford to put a DSG in there too and not have the $ be like 60-70k?!
I suppose one possibility is a 35-40k 5 speed X and a 45-50k X with the DSG.
Thoughts?
Even with this news I'm still planning on picking up a nicely discounted IX right before the X comes out.

if DSG is basically a paddle shifter, then i dont think it will be good. only auto/manual trannys i see that really have the manual like effect for racing and what not are the BMWs other then that i havent seen anyone other car company come close to making one exactly like a manual only with out a clutch. i've owned a 02 acura rsx and ended up buying the automatic with a shift tronic. i was greatly disappointed. then when i road in a friends Bmw m3 with the Smg paddle shifter. i was greatly impressed. i guess we all just have to wait and see.
The Eclipse Spyder, unveiled Monday at the Detroit auto show, will be launched this spring, followed by the Outlander SUV in fall 2006, the Lancer compact car in spring 2007 and the Lancer Evolution X in late 2007.El linko
Looks like we have about 18 months to speculate on buying it or not.

Audi's DSG is far superior to the SMG and Ferrari F1 box. The only thing better might be the new ZeroShift system which doesn't have all the bugs worked out yet. The zeroshift uses clever dogs to eliminate any break in power transmission, not a two-clutch system. Been featured numerous times in Racecar Engineering.

hahahaha~!
