While the very tight suspension is great at communicating road feel a significant percentage of the time you may not want it (potholes in the winter come to mind). What would be best is a selectable suspension but I doubt that would make it into the final product. To sell more units but not stray too far from the core values of the Evo they will need to soften the suspension some but not too much, it will be a fine line.
From Car and Driver:
“But where will the Evolution evolve next? "A wider power range, a softer ride, and quieter. This is our direction," Iwata says. Then he points to a Mitsubishi-owned Volkswagen R32 fitted with VW's silky-shifting Direct Shift Gearbox and asks, "What do you think of this transmission? It is very interesting to us." To some people, an Evo with paddle shifters and a mellow ride, an Evo that doesn't explode forward at 3000 rpm but merely wafts to higher velocities like a piano pushed off a skyscraper-well, that's just no Evo at all.”

Why is anyone discussing the looks of this vehicle???
It is a test mule, a term used for a vehicle developed by a manufacturer to test drivetrain and other components. The body on mules is often that of a current production car to hide the identity or simply because final body components have not reached a production stage.
What does that mean? This car is supposed to look like a IX. The production X will bear no resemblence to this vehicle what-so-ever. It isnt supposed to be pretty, hence the odd bumps and shapes. Form follows function in the pre-production phase. Once again this is only the Evo X in drivetrain form.

dude.. i love all new IX owners who are getting all but hurt by this car.. bottom line is the IX is vastly superior to the VIII in refinement.. but there is no way I would trade an VIII for a IX.. when this thing is gonna oblierate the CT9A platform in every category.. the handling is gonna be insane! not to mention actually looks like a refined sports car.
A Murano shares the Atlima platform, I think the Pilot shares the Accord platform, etc. At best the ride height might be an inch or two higher. I'm doubting we will hear much about the X offically until the Tokyo autoshow in September.

Why is it because BMW's SMG is not to certain people's liking, that Mitsubishi can be no better?

has anyone considered how much better the transmission would be for modded evos?.. Driving a standard stock evo IX with a 6 speed feels great.. but try driving a heavily modded car with cams and a bigger turbo and its a pain in the *** with the manual. When your making 100whp stock, your driving a completely different car.. and thats where I belive the tranny would shine.. the overal enjoyment of driving the car would be greatly enhanced considering most people daily drive these cars. Daily driving a modded evo with the 5 speed SUCKS! I cant tell you how much I would like to put it into an auto shift position and just relax for once.
but ill be waiting anyone since the atom is likely to be legalized in california within the next year and it will likely be less then an evo X
