That will be as dumb as the new replacement due for the R34 Skyline. That's a dumb 'retro' gimmick. IMHO you shouldn't take a 'clean' design and bastardize it for a sales gimmick like that.
Similarly, they can avoid copying the current 'big-grill fad' that Audi... VW... and others follow these days. What's the problem??? Only one designer available???
Damn... It just doesn't look good.

See, I, on the other hand, think that the new concepts look infinitely times better, more agressive, more modern than any Evo produced to date. In all reality I like european designs, Concept X and its variations definately scream european to me which is good in my opinion.
From the looks department I was never a big fan of Evo VI nor Evo IX, I have nothing against performance because that is autmotive perfection but aesthetically Evos always looked to me like each part was from a different car, no aesthetic cohesion. Concept X definately fixed it and I hope Mitsubishis next Evo will stay as true to the concept as possible.
All the current and past Evos basically look like cheap rice boxes and somehow I have a feeling that Concept X from aesthetic point of view will appeal to a greater public than the current Evos and I think that is what Mitsu is trying to accomplish.

Mitsubishi and any other auto maker who wants to sell vehicles in Europe must comply with new pedestrian crash standards, hence the higher hood lines and gaping holes in the nose aka Audi, VDub, etc....
The X has some very nice lines and design cues, something that can't be said for any of the earlier models. Yeah, if you're 12, they look great but from a pure designer's standpoint, they're hideous. I personally can't wait to dump the looks of the old car and move on to something with actual style.

^ ^ ^ Ahmm... Nope I wouldn't ever swap an Evo for a Skyline for the street...
especially not for the new 350Z/Skyline "retromobile" wannabe. The real 'R34' had much better styling IMHO. Also... not all my roads go in a straight line all the time...
Can't afford an Evo X but if I could I'd buy one and swap Galant panels to tone it down. Though Evo X still looks like crap the new S-AWC system is interesting in spite of the "fugly" styling IMHO.
The new
"Roll Control" system might still be under development but may be the best, most interesting feature of the new Evo X. Can you say... "Active Suspension?"

It's the same "Kinetic Suspension Technology" that helped Sabastien Loeb win 3 consecutive WRC Manufacturer's titles and 3 Driver's titles for Citroen.
BTW it also appears on the new 2007 Audi RS4.

Looks interesting to me... and I'm very curious about the new engine.

It's essentially identical to the Kinetic systems that have been outlawed in WRC competition due to their effectiveness.
