have short ram intake, tried to hurry and accelerate because we were at a light and the guy was letting me pass, I passed the puddle and tried to accelerate got no traction, so I let off the gas and tried to do a slower roll but it seem like the car was hoping like there was no traction, and then I started smelling something burning like engine oil kind of.

Mmm...I wouldnt worry about it much unless there are other symptoms. When you strap on that turbo youre gonna hear and smell all sorts of new things. Youre gonna wonder if that oil stain on the road is coming from your car, and other stuff your gonna be paranoid about.

If you didnt bounce off the rev limiter or do anything crazy dont worry. That smell could have just been from the car that was just in front earlier or just something in that area. The car isnt gonna let itself self destruct without you knowing about it especially if the biggest thing youve done so far is head studs. If you were burning any oil at all you would have seen a cloud in your rear view

with new headstuds when can I start driving normal? is it after a week like 03 lance said?

or could it be the valve cover leaking oil since i never changed out the gasket

I never said you had to wait a week to drive normal, you can drive normal now I just suggested you check the torque on the studs after a week. Your good to go bro

he's right and my car always always loses traction when I hit water , the 4g94 has pretty good off idle torque coupled with no traction control your fine .....

as said before the turbo will make you paranoid ,you'll smell everything and check everything again and again even if cars around you are burning oil , haha

as far as the extension for the 02 Im not sure where you can find it for the lancer , you'd have to google it I just extended the wires on the car side

well I took apart the car again and I recheck the studs, 2 studs just needed to be retorque they kinda made a crack noise at 60 pounds of torque so every stud is good now. And I think I found the problem, when I alomost lost my valve cover screw under the heat shield I took it off and found like a line of oil from the middle part of the valve cover and a little bit of it dropped on the stock exhaust manifold, so thats where that smell came from so I tighten down the valve cover alot more than I did yesterday and im solid to go. About to go to lowes right now for my dad so I can get a little test drive to see how she reacts to my normal driving

It's always good to double check something and find what is likely the culprit. I'm like you, I got 2 new tires the other day, and every bump I hit I think "did that dude at discount tire tighten them correctly?". I can't wait for the serious paranoia to set in with the turbo install..."what's that noise?, you smell that?" Anyway, go watch some videos on people blowing their engines on dynos or trying to street race, it keeps me on the safe side, lol. There is one video of a guy who forgets to connect the vacuum tube to his wastegate, and boosts to 29psi on the dyno. That video involves a "pop".

hahaha I have seen some of those videos and i'll admit there are times when I just want to sell the kit and stay N/A because I'm afraid i'll blow something, but like they say on these threads go big or go home so im going to suck it up and do it lol. The car runs beautiful now I drove it a little rougher than before and she is holding up good so looks like my more is on the safe side of not being warped...

Alright so I think I found a O2 harness that will fit our cars and it shouldnt cause much of a problem because I really dont want to cut anything but here is the link to the item so tell me what you think

I'm a fan of the turbo, my concern is "can I afford it". If the engine blows to pieces, I have a spare car that works reasonably well, so I feel like "yes, I can afford it". Still, both you and I have been saying that we need 1 or 2 more parts, but money is an issue....so we wait. I'm going to be less than happy if I get the kit on, something breaks, and I have to wait a paycheck to get it fixed...

Still, I say go Big....16g big, but don't go bigger than safety allocates you to go

Oh, so how are you as far as "install day"? You mentioned how long it's going to take, and having this be your main car, what's the plan shaping up to be?

im going at it this monday coming up because I get paid, and my mechanic is going to do my exhaust work plus my oil pan and he will let me do a payment plan with him, but everything is coming together, I got turbolancer or speedcorps working on my tune so I can run 5-10 psi safe so I will see what he says about going hard core with the turbo

If anyone is looking to buy a radar detector I have one for sale just click on my signature to see it im just looking for offers...

Hey whoever is running the evo 8 stock downpipe with a 16G turbo can they take pics of there down pipe connecting to the exhaust? Im trying to see if I can get out of the exhaust work since everyone says I need an extra 12 inches Im guessing becuase the cat, that maybe since I have just a straight pipe that I can just bolt it straight up. a heres what I mean once again just trying to save money.

I got the cat removed so im wondering if it will just bolt straight to the exhaust and I wont necessarily have to weld anything till later

The extra 12" that gets added to the downpipe is to make it reach to the cat. So you'll still need to add a length of pipe to get it to connect up to your straight pipe.
