Sounds easy, but its really not. Everyone is at a different level of prep on their cars, and some people would have to go out and spends anotehr few hundred bucks (brakes?) just to get the car ready. Adding the possibility of spending $500 for the weekend steers people away. I'll put together my own schedule, and may some of us will coincide somehow.

BTW, what groupdid you guys run with at Monticello?

I thought the cheapo Centric rotors were like $35 each. Then all you need is some nice pads, that will cost a few hunge but if they are the right compound they will last you. Then you need some good fluid, probably $10-15 each event and I guess you need a big bottle of regular brake fluid $10. Last thing you need is the skillz to change your pads and rotors at the track so you can get car ready and then drive home. If you are doing track days you need this stuff & knowledge anyways, so it should not be factored into your equation Chu (that is unless everyone on here is a hard parker). If Chu arranges a track day I will bring my car out and show yous...............NOT

if you organize it, they will come. you don't need a 'prepped' car at all, all you need is fresh brake fluid and enough pads and rubber to make it thru the day... for a beginner I would say anything more than half life is more than fine since you won't be that hard on the equipment.

the Monti event was with the SCCA.

rotors are cheap, pads are a little more expensive. I just paid $160 for a set of front & rear premium centric rotors. they'll probably last me the rest of the season (doing atleast two days a month till October), but I replace them well before they are done because they're so cheap. I also got pads which came out to $380 shipped for front & rear. they should also last till the end of the year or longer. so for an average person if you wanted to get brand new equipment it would be around $540 and you would likely have brakes for TWO years, lol.

Fluid is a must, I flush it every few events. Its cheap insurance.

Haven't even started deciding. Suggestions?

Do you swap rotors for the sake of having reliable ones for the street?

I;m a big fan of Carbotech pads. the tires you run should really dictate the pads you choose. I like the xp-10/xp-8 combo for HPDE with my Z1 star specs, but I'm trying a more aggressive setup next to see the difference.

I don't swap pads or rotors for the street. The pad part is just cause I'm lazy and don't feel like pulling my wheels off. the rotor part however is because brake rotors will last longer if they're 'seasoned'. meaning if you heat cycle them on the street a lot prior to really heat cycling them at the track the will be more durable and last longer.

So running my current rotors and replacing them when the time comes is appropriate.

Mike and you had me thinking you run a different set of rotors for the track.
