yeah i know thats what its there for......basically gillman in austin is saying they will not warranty it because it was my fault for opening it while driving....i guess saying the speed i was going caused it to fail....either way i found this thread in the how tos if anyone else has had this problem.... https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=166857

The whole reason that there is a wind break that pops up is to help deflect the volume of air over the roof creating a vacuum that pulls air up and out of the car rather than pushing air down and in. The whole opening/closing while driving is complete BS! A convertible I can see not opening closing while driving. But a sunroof. Fuggin bulshiit!

I'm glad that someone found my how to. It has helped others with sunroof problems. If it is under warranty take it to the dealer and make them show you in writing where it says not to open and close while driving in the owners manual. After that if they still want to act the as$. Open a case with Mitsu USA. Let them deal with the service manager.

yeah im glad i found your thread....as much as i want to do it myself, just to drive around, id rather just take it to them and let them deal with it......im about to leave here around 1pm to san antonio to get it fixed anyways.....but once again thanks for your how to

Hum, hope my sunroof will work forever, but you never know and it is a mitsubishi

I open and close or at least make some movements by pressing the button while I drive it on local/freeway.

Glad to hear it would cause our sunroofs not working properly if we constantly do that.

Angry Evo Warranty disaster.

Ok first let me start off by saying...I love Mitsubishi. I own 2 Mitsubishis in all. And this new warranty that they have come out with, 100,000 miles or 10 years(which ever comes first), is pretty damn amazing. Since my first mitsubishi had a 3 year or 30,000 mile warranty. Great improvement riiight? Well, a few months back I bought a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Not sure how it happened, but it did. And keep in mind, this is the car of my dreams. I love this car. It's the perfect colour, the perfect size, and well, pretty much the perfect everything in my eyes. When I bought it, we asked the sales-person what was covered by that awesome new Mitsubishi warranty. She told us that everything was covered. INCLUDING TIRES AND THE CLUTCH. She actually told me these particular items because I asked. Wow, sounds like a great deal eh?

Last Friday, I called the dealer in Jacksonville, NC (Don Williamson Misubishi and Nissan) and told them my clutch was slipping very badly, and that I would like to bring it in to have it looked at since the car is only a few months old. I told them I felt that it may need a new clutch. They said ok, and set an appointment for Monday(yesterday) for me to bring the car in to have it checked out. Everything seemed great. So, Yesterday I start driving up there, and I am almost there, when my friend and I hear this noise. It sounds like flapping rubber. Crap....it sounded like a flat tire. So we pulled over into a gas station, and yeah, it was a flat tire. So he takes the tire off the car to put the donut on, and we both couldn't believe what we saw. On the inside of the tire's tread, there was like 1 inch of rubber like totally missing. If you can imagine that- regular tread everywhere but the inner part of the tire which has a 1 inch drop of nothing. We went and looked at the other front tire, and it was the exact same, except it was not flat yet. So we decided that well it was ok, because it was all covered by the warranty, and we new that it would be taken care of since it was a new car. We drove the rest of the way to the dealer. Dropped the car off, and they said that they would call when they were done.

About 2 hours later, they call and said, "Well, Mam, you need a new clutch and 4 new tires." When he said this I was like wow...I get a new clutch and 4 new tires! And so I said, "Ok, well this is all covered by the warranty right?" He said, "No, mam. It isn't"

Ok at this point I couldn't believe that I heard that. I said, "Nothing is covered? Not even the clutch?" He says, "Mitsubishi considers the clutch and the tires as "wear-and-tear items" and they are not covered at all by their warranty. I got off the phone immediately, and went and got my friend, and we started walking back to the dealer form the mall. I was so angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I decided that I wasn't going to go to the service counter first, and that I was going to go and talk to a sales person first and ask about the warranty. When I got to the sales floor, I asked the guy what was covered by the Mitsubishi warranty, and he asked my what kind of problem I was having. I told him the clutch is bad and the tires are bad, and he told me they were covered by the warranty, and so I started crying and told him what the guys in service said to me. He said, "Oh dont listen to them Those guys are a bunch of dick heads who don't know anything." Wow...anyways. He told me to go talk to this guy who was the general manager, Stevie Stevenson (great name, eh?) And he basically confirmed everything. None of my problems with my new car were covered. He said that those were common problems with that car that they see all the time and that was mainly why they were considered wear-and-tear items. You know what???? That sounds to me like a frickin problem with the car's design to me!!!!!!! I begged and pleaded to no avail. He eventually started just replying to me with, "Yep,mmhmm, yep right uh huh uh huh. ok yep yep ok uh huh yeah." I wanted to slap him. He said that those tires were very soft and that they wear out like that usualy around 10,000 miles. I told him that in that case the evo should come with 4 spare tires in the trunk. He said, "mmhmm yep ok" He gave me the number to Mitsubishi, and I called them and they started telling me that they could tear the clutch apart to see if it was a defect, and that if they did not find one, that I would be obligated to pay for the labour of tearing it down, AND the cost of a new clutch. So needless to say, I already do not trust them, so, why would I let them do that. They could just lie about it. And I am way to broke to take a risk like that..

Well, here is my point. I can TOTALLY understand some things not being covered by a warranty. But for the sales people to actually say that certain items are covered when they are actually not covered is W-R-O-N-G! They should hold to what they actually TOLD me verbally. That is a verbal contract...right??? Ok. So this makes me think I need to go and talk to a lawyer. I might just do that today. Because, they told me that these items were covered, when they are not. This is a bunch of C-R-A-P!

So, here I am. I have a nice car, high payments, and I can't drive it anywhere. No resources to pull to get any money to fix it. Not enough money to save up for repairs. So......Ah....the american dream...

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me. Service manager told me he would put in a new clutch for me and that my warranty would still be covered. The only item that wouldnt be was the clutch (clutch was going in to attempt to fix a noise - car was stock). Now mitsu has flagged my car and I can no longer get any drivetrain warranty work done without a tremendous amount of hassle. I am now working with the dealer, paying a dicounted labor cost to have this noise tracked down and fixed. Thats the best I could get without going to court and spending far too much time getting this resolved legally.

Sales people lie. They want to sell you a car and sometimes they will just tell you what you want to hear. I don't know of a car company that will warrenty things like the clutch and tires. The tires don't last long on these cars and the clutch depends on if you know how to drive or not.

I think if you go to a lawyer you will probably end up spending more then a clutch and a new set of tires will cost you. Plus I don't think you have proof of what the salesperson said because it isn't written down.

Just buy some new tires and a clutch and be done with it. These are expensive cars to take care of, get use to it.

I understand your frustration, but clutch/tires are wear & tear items. No car company is going to reimburse you for those items unless there is a defect.

Evo's are know for the tire problem. Everyone should check there alignment. The clutch is not great either. Some people get a lot of miles out of it and some don't. It really depends on how you drive it.

Maybe you should trade the car in if you can't afford it. No point in letting it sit.

Well, I am seriously thinking about going to a different dealer abuot the issue. And as far as buying a new clutch and new tires. I can't do that. So basically I am screwed right now.

Which dealership in CT did you buyy your car at and where are you having it serviced?
