But the Lancer pics (definitely not Evos, despite the claim) posted in the last day don't have even the basics of those attributes... even with the Evo's extended flares and even more aggressive grill the basic body still looks short and tall, with an outsized passenger compartment. Like the current Lancer. And I have the sinking feeling the H-point went up a lot.

Of course there is only so much that can be done with a car of this size... but this is definitely not the concept.

But I'll wait for more pics before calling final judgement here... and pics from different angles. The tall trunk lid, for one thing, will lend more forward-motion to to the look of the car than the too-short lid on the current Lancer does. And perhaps the tires will be taller (like the current Evo compared to the Lancer underling), although I think that point is technically unlikely this time out. So, we need some real pics... and it may be months before an actual Evo X is found on the road.

At first I had mixed feelings about the next Lancer but then I remembered that the new Lancer along with Evo X are being designed mostly in Mitsubishis Germany studios by Europeans which is a plus in my book. As much as California studios are out of touch with reality (look at new Galant, Raider, Endevour, and even the new bloated Eclipse although they did a bit better job then on all the previously mentioned cars) the European Mitsubishi studios lately have it all right, at least to my tastes.

Look at the new L200 pickup (probably the best looking pickup truck I have seen so far and that includes offerings from Nissan and our Domestics), look at the new Outlander (already outselling the new Rav4 in Japan for 6 months and the European version seems to look even better: http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/07/...007-outlander/ ), new Colt (big seller on European market considering that small car market is a tuff market in Europe to even break in as there is so much "little" competition), new Grandis (probably the best looking "people mover" I have seen so far and the only van I wouldn't call boring and actually call sporty), those cars simply look good so I'll leave the new Lancer and Evo X in their hands as I know they won't disappoint when it comes to looks department.

new EVO X & skyline article (imagus gargantuous)

thanks to crctslt on norcalevo.net for the pics.

The car looks like this because it has to, not because some designer prefers it this way

volvo s40's share the same platform and underpinnings as the mazda 3 and upcoming ford focus so it could be either the mazda or s40

What a dick. RAs are nice cars, no they're not as fast as evolutions, but for 15-20k less, who cares? Evo owners can be such ****** to their 'little brothers'. All the guys I know with STis are awesome people and are constantly encouraging me to improve on my car and just generally acting nice to each other. The mitsubishi community could really learn something from the subaru community.

As much as I agree that STi and WRX owners get along, the Lancer and Lancer OZ and Lancer Ralliart are so far from the Evo that its as if they are 100% different cars. Lancers compete with civcs and corolla's. It would be like an STi and 2.5RS. They are too different to really like the little sibling.
