Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]

While every publication and website this side of Tokyo has this car pegged as the next-generation Mitsubishi Evolution X, our inside sources say what you’re looking at is merely the base 2008 Lancer.
We’re told we can expect a “strong family resemblance” between the base car and the Evo X. If the base Lancer picks up this many design cues from the highly acclaimed Concept-X introduced at the 2005 Tokyo motor show—the pronounced front end, the massive hood scoops and the overall sleek styling—we can only surmise that the high-performance Evo X will be stunning.
Sharing a platform with the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass, the Lancer lineup will start with the base model due next spring as an ’08. The Ralliart package will follow—this time as more than a tuck and trim job. Our sources tell us the Ralliart menu will include options like all-wheel drive and a turbocharged engine.
At the top of the heap comes the all-wheel-drive Evo X, with a 2.0-liter, 300-hp turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a six-speed clutchless transmission. Look for Evo in late 2007 or early in 2008 as a possible 2009 model.

New SCC Article on Evo X
Did anyone else read the new article on the Evo X in the SCC magazine?
It talked about Dr. Evo making the Evo X waaay better than the IX. The SAYC and them testing it. They said it's about 60% complete.
It has definetly got me curious to see what they willfinally come out with. They said it was nothing like the original concept that came out.
Anybody else have an opinion on it??

Considering that the spy shots supposedly show the regular Lancer/RalliArt, I would speculate that the EVO X will feature several distinguising exterior elements:
1) a wider track along with the associated obligatory fender flares.
2) big rear wing (maybe optional)
3) Red break calipers
4) Possible dual exhaust (or at least an enlarged single exhaust)
5) Smoked lens headlights with multi-HID lights
6) Fully visible FMIC (through the honeycomb mesh airdam)
7) ground effect kit for improved aerodynamics
8) Functional hood scoops, brake cooling sccops, etc.
Not to mention, the brand name hardware such as Brembo, Bilstein, Recaro, Momo, etc. will make their return.

Um, how can a purebred Evo be derived from a Dodge (or any shared-platform car) and still be an Evo? If Mitsu doesn't get back into rallying in some fashion with this car (WRC or some such)and apply what it learns at the track to their car design, then it has severe risk of being watered-down, IMO. Look what happened to the 3G DSM's after the "upscale" marketers stepped in and neutered them in their next generation...
Don't get me wrong: if they sell a 300-400hp car with SMG-like clutchless tranny that will beat road course times of my current Evo VIII, I'll freakin' buy it in a heartbeat no matter what platform it shares as long as it's comparably priced to current Evo...
Mitsu doesn't want to warranty race-cars anymore though I bet, so I'm scared...
Rumor mill, rumor mill, make me a rumor...

i think mitsu should just make warranty an option in the future, it will make things so much easier on us and themseves. There will always be people that want a warranty who do not plan on modifying their cars.

Platform sharing has gone on for awhile now.

There's a pic of where the engines will be assembled.
This link talks about it...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_...uring_Alliance
It'll be called DSM/GEMA shootout soon, hell Turbo Dodges are out for the ECSO this year allready
I read somewhere that the new block is the 2.2L Ralliart bored out.
This was alot of post to funnel through i'm sure someone said it allready.
From what I see possibly the Ralliart will have a 2.0T and the EVO X will have a 2.4T shared with the Caliber SRT.
This would still allow mitsu to compete in rally hence the Ralliart name

I read this as a warning flag that we might have a Jaguar S-Type = Lincoln LS in all but body panels and badging type "platform sharing" arrangement. Just scared in this day and age of severe cost-containment in mass-market car production, that's all.
Like I said, if it goes like stink around the race track and takes to bolt-on mods like the 4G63 does, I'm buyin' it regardless. :-)
