if thats the case should I change the timing when I get the knocks? Or what should I do in this case
Lets see a log of those knocks may be pretty easy to fix.

Also pay attention to the AFR at the time of the knock if you know how to repeat it.

ok so the highest boost I got to so far is 3 -4 psi which is pretty much maxed out now but im having hesistations when in boost like its still dumping fuel. And these arent wot pulls kinda like 70-80 percent and lightly pressing on it to accelerate into boost. The highest knock I have seen in the logs is 2 which is not bad but I prefer no knocks then I wont have to worry about damage, its kinda hard to check when the cel comes on when you have to look at the boost gauge and afr at the same time while driving. But here are the logs so far

these are all 3rd gear pulls from 2500 up to wherever I stopped because of hesistation, its like I cant go up past 4k for some reason. When we get these knocks taken care of should I up the boost to like 6 or 7 by putting in my boost controller to make it lean itself out a little or do you want to see how this goes so far? Just let me know when I can install the boost controller.

here are the logs

ok heres anothe update, 2 problems that need to be corrected, when I rev up to 4 k plus I here this noise I cant figure it out yet until tonight, its like some metal noise I cant really explain it, another thing is my cel is coming on when I got the 2 step setted up, I can press it half way and its fine, but if I floor it I have cel's blinking. Now to fix those knocks, do I look at the rpm, and the ecu load, and lower the timing to fix knocks? Or do I need to increase fuel as well to prevent it from happening?

For the first problem has anyone experienced this at all? Or what could be the problem from your perspective?

Are you using the evo ROM? It blinks when you have knock.

The sound at 4k plus rpm's, that sounds like metal....is it audible engine knock?

You anywhere you have knocks, pull timing in that area, and smooth around it so there aren't sharp edges. Like you said, just followthe graph, load vs rpm and pull timing there. don't worry with increasing or decreasing fuel to remove knock, just get afr's at your target range (11.2? can't remember what you are using).

For sure on this, monitor cables/plugs do video only. 3 rows of pins on vga cables. serial cables do other stuff, 2 rows of pins. the serial plug on your laptop will have 2 rows, if you don't have one of those, you'll need the usb to serial adaptor that 03 alluded to.

Serial looks like this

ok I cant remember when I read that merlins tuning thing, do you drop 1 degree per knock depending on the log?

I work a double at my job tomorrow so I wont be tuning tomorrow but I will tuning monday for sure just want to see how to get rid of knocks so I can at least boost for a little bit longer and get my afrs fixed. Still waiting on that package hopefully it comes this week

The stock ecu does nothing to combat knock until you reach at least a count of 3. So everytime you see a count of 3 you want to drop timing 1 degree. If you see a count of 6 then drop it 2 degrees etc. You also want to make sure its consistent knock.

When I say consistent what I mean is throught the log there are several times at the same load and rpm range were this knock occurs. This way you know its real and wasnt just a fluke from shifting or something like that I seem to get knock if I shift hard.

Steven just as an FYI I'm bailing on the community. Need a different car so i'm selling my evo .

As such I'm going to be pretty busy selling the array of parts you see on my sig now and other matters financially. I'll likely be back into the sports car arena someday but not for awhile. I wont be able to give you good support for awhile but lance 03 should have enough knowledge watching me tune his car to know what to do if your in a pinch

Damn man really? that SUCKS man. Looks like I got to use and abuse ya just in time J/K. Really thanks for the help man helped me understand this timing alot better. BTW I switched back to an earlier tune with the later knock settings and seem to be doing alot better and got alot more power back just have to make some minor adjustments
