Quote: trav, the hole on the mbc is supposed to be there of course, but as I mentioned before the o-ring, spring, and pill in these specific mbc's cause problems
Yea i ran one of those a few years ago before my full hatred of BR came around - I hated it..... I sold it and went back to my 6+ year old joe p. mbc that always worked and then eventually went gm 3 port once the ecu patches and stuff came out.

That's because he doesn't understand the ecu boost system or how to tune it probably.....least imo. It works I have been using it everyday for over 2 years now, I have tuned it myself and it works flawlessly. There is a learning curve but once you grasp how it all works it becomes amazingly simple.

there are a lot of people using it - see the ecuflash forum.

There isn't a single stock ecu option that I am not confident in and I have done everything myself all the way up to speed density tuning and all works amazing.

I agree. Running the ECU boost will be a requirement for my tune. I am pretty sure I am taking it elsewhere, but just found it odd that one of the top shops for the 4g63 in the country has yet to really grasp the capabilities of the stock ECU. You would think they would be the ones wanting to expand that knowledge base to get more people able to come to them for "low cost" tunes and the hook them in for all their more expensive motor/build needs.

Quote: pull the pin, pop the arm off and turn it in - there is a locking nut on it too loosen that.....then pop the arm back on and put the pin back in. Its fairly simple but will be a slight pain due to limited space you have.

I pulled the pin out and popped the rod off. In comparing how the 2 holes line up, the hole in the rod cap was about a 1/4 hole (or more) higher than the arm hole. So it's possible the wastegate was leaking out. Turned the rod cap down at least 2 full turns. The flapper arm now seems to be in the bottom most position and holding tight.

Will hook up the boost controller back up during lunch and do a few tests. Hopefully this is it and the end of my nightmare.

this is the same guy not real long ago said he didn't recommend any injector bigger than like a 680 with the stock ecu

He likes to push the AEM and probably makes a big chunk of change from them with cost of the unit, sensors needed, set up fees, tuning, etc....of course he will never fully admit the stock ecu's capabilities least from what I see.

He has gotten better at showing more respect for the stock ecu but still seems to show blind ignorance from what you posted....oh well im never surprised.

why kill the goose that laid the golden egg when you can just keep the eggs?

Maybe you should set up dates to go to buschurs to tune on his dyno for him.. Im sure you can show him a few things or two

The guy has been doing what he does for 20 years, (he says things for a reason i imagine) your just a kid who reads the stock ecu forums and practices on you own personal car but never ever ever backs anything up with dyno numbers or track times.

I didn't mean to start any sort of fight, I was just saying that I am surprised they don't really like to tune a 3 port and do ECU controlled boost.

David and the entire team at BR have been great to me through the entire process, but every setup has its problems. If you aren't confident at completing a task, then why try and do it and do a half assed job? Why not just stick with what you know until you learn enough to give it a shot? At least that is how I feel.

On another note, I found out today on the phone with David that I will have the first Evo 9 with their 2.1 L shortblock and head. Mike is probably cursing the fact that I threw this project in his lap, but as always he is doing a fantastic job. We just need to come up with a solution for the Oil feed for the MIVEC head as the hole drilled by BR is too small for the stock line. I might have to go the -AN route or something along those lines. I hate to have to drill it out and risk clogging the oil passages...

Who updated the tags with number 2 on the list? Oh the entertainment this forum provides...

So I adjusted the wastegate arm. It seemed to spool up a few psi quicker, but still lagging big time. Not even hitting 15psi until 5100rpms and 25.5 at 6800rpms.

/le sigh

Did you have to stretch the actuator rod so that it has some intial preload? Should be the case, my stocker and your IX both had about 1/2 rod diameter of stretch I believe. I could check when I get home if needed...

I look at it like this really, they and a select few other vendors open the flood gates when it comes to R&D of parts and part combination's. innovators should not be criticized just because they dont hold your hair up when you are puking in the toilet.
