Oil pressure readings look fine to me. The loose fitting not leaking is good but like you said should be fixed. The biggest bummer is the oil burning at idle from the turbo. Bad seal (not familiar with this turbo....others having this issue)? Possibly from when you pressurized the system and vented oil everywhere? Maybe reseal and should be good?

YES!!!!!!

Fixed my oil burning issue. Went down to a .035 oil restrictor like FP does on their ball bearing turbos and I no longer spy hunter once the car is fully warm at stop lights. YAY.

My fuel trim issue didn’t go away. I ended up turning off fuel trims to see what the car is really doing....

At idle it’s lean, 15.8-16.8. At cruise it’s a perfect 14.5-14.8.

So, leaning towards exhaust leak since cruise is perfect. What do you all think?

That's great news! Does it still puff a little when you first fire it up?

It is a bit cooler now. Does the idle circuit need to tweaked a bit? If you had a Holley I could help ya...

It never burned oil when cold, only when fully warm and after driving it.

On another note, took some updated photos of the engine bay. I tried my best to hide the catch can, breather hoses, sensors, etc... I have to say, it came out pretty stealthy...

I don't have experience with what magnitude of exhaust leak is required to cause that much of a false reading. Does it idle steady with trims disabled, or does the engine start acting poorly as the AFR goes towards 16.8:1?

The more I drove it yesterday the more I realized it was actually running lean at idle. The idle is strong but it feels lean. I also noticed it is leaner (around 16.8-17.1) directly after starting the car (when warm) and gets less lean down to about 15.8 the more you drive it.

I'll have to go through the engine bay. Symptoms seem like a gasket maybe.

The precision CHRA is internally restricted, I would consult precision on further restricting the supply.


Were the fuel trims good before? The Vband stuff is pretty easy to get sealed right. Possible injectors clogged, or just need to adjust the tune since the engine has broken in and VE has improved with ring seal, which usually most greatly effects idle..

I did a bunch of searching and it seems like most BB Precision owners with cars with higher oil pressure than others (Evo, etc) have had to use restrictors.

Trims have been nuts since I picked the car up, on both ID1000 and ID1300.

I tried to do a boost leak test the other weekend but the engine wasn't at TDC so everything just went out the exhaust. I was pressed for time so I didn't get around to setting the engine to TDC to test again. I'll have to set aside some time to do it right.

Nothing really points to a boost leak though as cruise and WOT seems right and WGDC levels are normal for the boost amount.

How much manifold Vac are you measuring at idle? Is there any choppiness with these cams or is the idle pretty smooth.

You can't even tell the car has cams.

After warm start:

Are the trims more calm now? I really think it's just the engine breaking in. I've had them where it goes as far as needing to adjust the BISS screw (in 4g63 cars). So, a fueling change wouldn't surprise me.

No, see above. Only way I can get the car to not drive like crap off idle is turning trims off. If i richen the car up it just gets super rich on throttle tip in.

i’ve tried about ten different variations of injector scaling, latency, maf scaling, cal fueling, etc

Are you running E85 or pump gas?
