The bottom line is Mitsubishi supplied both companies with engines and/or platforms for several years, and Chrysler and Hyundai both went on to produce some of their own designs, based on what they learned/copied from Mitsubishi. IF this time around they spent more development dollars to return the favor, so be it. It is a moot point in my mind, but I am sure it will keep forums like this arguing over it forever.
The Vin decoder sheet shows no Evos at all, which is what I suspected all along. They won't go back and add them, its done. So I doubt the 4B11 is the Evo engine code, unless they are going to use a detuned version of it in a lesser Lancer.

I still find the EVO's to be very raw in most regards...there are very few creature comforts unless you get the SSL. After owning an R32 and a Lotus Elise I would say the EVO leans more towards the Elise side of "built for a purpose and nothing more." The R32 drove like a luxury car in comparision to the other 2. I don't think Mitsu will forget the heritage of the EVO and hope it continues to get better with time as the first 9 models have.

Im 14 y/o and I love the Evo, and no Im not one of those youths who want a rice rocket and get an Evo and think of myself as a good driver. I know most of its history, Ive been longing for it to come here since i first played Gran Turismo 2. The point is that I think that the Evo X will come withoout warning. That one day soon youll just see it in showrooms. And that's is what Im scared of because I thinkt eh X will ruin the Evo line for some reason. IIt's as if the Evo has become a lil bit soft because it doesn't seem as raw or as hardcore as the previous ones were. They might be loading the X with too many amenities and who knows? They might just throw in an automatic transmission or one of those SPORTRONIC ones with a manual shift gate...

"But where will the Evolution evolve next? "A wider power range, a softer ride, and quieter. This is our direction," Iwata says. Then he points to a Mitsubishi-owned Volkswagen R32 fitted with VW's silky-shifting Direct Shift Gearbox and asks, "What do you think of this transmission? It is very interesting to us." To some people, an Evo with paddle shifters and a mellow ride, an Evo that doesn't explode forward at 3000 rpm but merely wafts to higher velocities like a piano pushed off a skyscraper-well, that's just no Evo at all."

You made me smile. You sound like a good kid that loves cars and one day I was just like you.
Cars will change by time and sadly the golden age of racing and cars have passed us already. I would not worry too much about it and I would just enjoy my life at that age. If you are so into cars go and learn how to race go kart as they are too much fun.
I see your point of the EVO not being raw anymore but all cars are softer than before. F40 for example is a raw car try comparing it to the new Porsche GT or the 575M.
Don’t stress too much just enjoy it.

This is what the "Evo X" should look like

I don't know about you guys but I am not felling the red "Evo X" thats been in a lot of autoshows and in magazines. IMO I think it's a piece of **** and looks horrible and not original(looks like all the other futuristic cars that have been coming out). The picture of this drawn concept evo looks "Flawless and aggressive" and if this came out as the "Evo X" I would jump on this in a minute and pay top dollar for it. If
comes out with that bergundy red model that has been all over the media I think
is going to take a fall (just like Subaru with their redesigned 06' STi).
