So update:

the dealership wanted to get a mitsu ref to come down and look at the car before they do anything. I got a case number and everything... the odd thing was: Mitsu headquarters said it was odd for a dealership to do this sort of thing. ugh... this is so troublesome

My mitsu dealer was cool, they installed my camshaft for me.
Now the dealership is under new management....not even taking it there now.

You should have taken it San Rafael. I go to SRM once in a while they are really cool people. I regret ever buying my evo at Stevens Creek. Those bastards...wouldn't even give me time of day to ask questions after I bought my evo.

I'm hoping to get my Evo at SRM. =D 30 minute Drive from where I live. It'll be a fun drive to the shop. hahaha.

If a Salesman says: "The only thing you can do to the car is a cat-back" Should I believe them or get it in writing? This was Concord Mitsu's manager btw. =\ I've heard too many horror stories to listen to Salesmen. @.@

Sales vs. Service

Ask the service manager what he thinks. This is the guy that you should listen to. Or all three!

Ask the parts manager and Tech guys. It is good to have the advice of all 3.. 4.. 5 people.

Were they aftermarket cams... and did they (dealer or maintenance manager) tell you that it would void your warranty? Also, What kind of cams?

Are we talking about the seat, or are we talking about the plastic back on the seat? I had the plastic back replaced on my 2005 MR. I reached to get my wallet out of my bvack pocket, and the pressure from my upper back on the top of the seat cracked the right rear plastic part about halfway down. Mitsubishi replaced the plastic part. It did not require a brand new seat.

For the record folks, if you call roadside assistance they decide where the car goes, not the owner. The policy is to tow it to the nearest dealer. Again, not his choice.

You are getting a bad deal at that dealer. They are taking advantage of their position.

Keep us updated.....

Go to a different dealer.. or just fix it yourself so they don't void you :\ Not that it would really matter

What I don't understand is how MItsubishi can get away with being so inconsistent.

How in the hell can this be covered under warranty at some places, but denied at others?

Because dealers are different, some are awful crooks and others are just kind of crooks. There's a couple that don't try to screw everyone every which way, though. I'd like to hear what Mitsubishi's official policy is on this, though. I can't imagine them actually considering it a wear item as the seats aren't supposed to be replaced every X years after use like brake pads and rotors or something.

I asked for them to explain to me in writing why they considered it a wear and tear item, which they in fact could not do. The service manager commented all warranty information is in the manual as an easy way out. I do not have direct access to my manual at this time. Is it in fact in the manual? Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

How many miles and what is the in-service date? Did you buy it new? If so what month? Did you authorize the check out fee before they pulled the car in? Did they explain that if it wasn't under warranty that you would be charged for the checkout?

BTW. If you pay anybody with a check and then cancel that check it is illegal. That is considered theft of services. If you feel that you should not have to pay them for what they have done, or you did not authorize them to work on it knowing that you MIGHT be charged, then you dispute that with them before writing the check or paying the cash. As soon as you pay them you have authorized the charge.

Mitsu DOES have a list of items that they consider wear and tear. It's not just limited to what you guys think it is. Brake pads, clutches, accessory belts, soft trim items, wiper blades. If you wear out your front seat bottom from all of the sliding in and out and it is 25k miles then that is NOT warranty. If you deliver pizzas and it wears out in 3 months or less then it would not be covered. That would be considered commercial use and anything that is broken during "commercial use" is not a warranty item. Wear and tear warranty is 90days or 4k miles whichever comes first for most of the things that I mentioned. Some are covered for 12 months or 12k miles.

As for telling you that the info is in the manual, if it were me I would tell you to look it up because you might believe it if you saw it with your own eyes.

It's pretty amazing to me that you all think that we decide what is warranty and what is not. If we follow the guidelines that Mitsu puts in print for us, it's very rare that we get charged back for a repair. If it were up to you all then we would be out of business replacing parts that you think are warranty. The truth is that mitsubishi pays us if the claim is approved. By the time that we find that the claim is charged back, you guys are long gone and giving us the finger.

What would you do if it were your $$$??

I'm not saying it is or isn't warranty. I can't until I see it. If I needed to clarify it better I would call my rep and ask him. If he said it was covered then I would fix it. If he said it isn't covered then I wouldn't. He would be the guy to deny the claim.

I'm Just trying to educate you guys as to the process. Like it or not, it applies to all dealers the same. If you want to be educated as to how it works, please ask. I will answer every question that I can.

Let us know what happens.
