If i had to choose between the sti and the evo i would buy the evo 100 times over again. The sti is butt focking ugly, It looks like a pig with a post office mail drop box for the hood. The gold wheels scream rice boy It is just plain ugly. Now if they built it in the wagon, it would be a different story. I love the looks of the evo8, speacially without the wing, like mine. It is a hot looking 4 door rocket. I dont really care if the sti will takes the evo off the line and 1/4 mile, I just dont want to launch my car hard. I want mine to last. And as far as Secert Chimp said, all this "ringer" **** needs to stop, until someone proves it is different from the stock evo's we all have.

Well how is that for a flame? Kinda soft I think.
One more thing The next time I see the sign off with "cheers" in it im going to puke all over my keyboard!!!!! Please get off the cheers thing, its soooo Gay!

Also someone scan the issue of the Motortrend, i dont have mine yet. I think it is soooo funny that they had the evo beating the sti in a straight line, this will just even out the bragging rights, if you choose not to race one on the streets.
Also my car feels like it has 40 more horsepower today. Its rainy and cold/ damp dense air..... I love this weather!!!!!
C'mon.. tell us the truth. Are you even old enough to hold a license?

Cheers.

I have an idea lets race rally cars in a straight line. Good for the STi to be the faster straight line car... if i wanted one of those however i would just get an impala ss with a blower and run 10's.

The difference between both car on track is 1/10 a second or something, this is because of thinner STi tires and can easily be fixed. Consider STi is smaller then EVO but with the same weight, more narrow track (F/R) and smaller tires.

I know it wouldn't mean anything in the street or at a 1/4 mile strip but what do people think about the top speeds of these 2 cars. I was wondering if anyone noticed that someone posted the top speeds with the STI hitting 145 while the Evo can hit 157 (I've seen some post higher speeds on this site but we'll stick to the magazines numbers). Would the Evo make up ground with the handling advantage and higher overall top speed on a track with long straight aways? Do any of you think that could have found a way to gear the car differently for more power during acceleration if it was geared to run with a lower top speed, maybe around that same 145 mph top speed that the STI is said to have? These are legitimate questions since I don't personally have any racing experience to speak of.

those two statements quoted above can testify to that...

the STi is the perfect competition for the EVO, STOCK vs. STOCK numbers across the board will show that the EVO does NOT dominate, out handle the STi. Get your head out of your a$$ and realize that they are a good match. The preference will be up to the driver.

One motor trend article comes out and now the STi would 'take a TON of $$' for it to match the EVO

i feel for you when you line up against one at the light and get disappointed
You, good sir, need to chill out. He may have exaggerated a little on the "WAY more $$$" bit but he's not at all off from the truth. Has nothing to do with just what one MT mag says. It's been said from every publication in Europe all the way to the West Coast. The Evo has "ALWAYS" been the better handler in all tests. The difference is marginal and will probably come down to driver skill indeed but I'd bet equal drivers would come out faster in the Evo. Straight line is a moot point since we all know the STi packs a larger engine and more power. OF COURSE it'll win at the light in a straight line knucklehead! Why would he be disappointed after that. It's to be expected. The Evo that beat the STi US ed. was obviously a ringer. I know how fast my Evo is and it wouldn't win in a straight line. With very few mods and little money I'll win that race. And my car will still be cheaper than an STi.

If you're going to match up tire setup to be the equalizer then match power output as well. The only reason the STi hangs as close as it does is because of straight line speed. If the Evo had the same power output you can add a few more tenths to that number.

Who is more evil out of the yank and mets? I'd say the mets because no matter who or what they buy, they can't win. The Yanks, on the other hand .... spend their their money to win ... and they do win! A little of the subject but I thought I'd throw that in. As far as these two bad **** rally machines .... neither is friggin evil .... who gives a rats *** anyway!!! In my opinion ... the Subaru is friggin ugly as hell compared to my pimped out Tarmac evo with 5% tint ... but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be fun to drive .... or that I wouldn't consider buying one.

I say it all depends on the track... For a really narrow and tight track, a civic would easily out perform an EVO or STi. But is the Civic overall better then EVO and STi? NO. Is like comparing an Supra TT to an EVO, you can not say EVO is better just because the EVO beat the Supra in a small track.

Hahha i love seeing people post random non sense. As an evo owner i am happy to see both these cars on us soil. its like owning a dream car, and i am happy that both cars have pros and cons against each other it makes it good hardcore competition that will depend on driver and not what you got.

On virtually any road course, neither car will approach those speeds. The only closed course where you'll see 145+ for a street car is a banked oval.

STi: They liked a lot the DCCD, comfortable sport seats, grips like spiderman, found bizarre there were no radio, understeered sooner than they thought.
0-60 -- 4.87
1/4 mile -- 13.23@104.6
Braking 60-0ft -- 111

Evo:
0-60 -- 4.59
1/4 mile -- 13.08@105.1
Braking 60-0ft -- 106

Could someone verify this? Someone posted this on nasioc. I'll verify myself when i get the magazine!

Is this for real? Or is this guy joking. 13.08 "wow!"
That's interesting. The online Autoweek article reported that the STi was faster in a straight line, while the Evo edged ahead in the turns. They also reported 60-0 mph in 100' for the Evo. Other mags report higher numbers, such as those above. Looks like it really depends on the condition of the car, track, tires, and driver for most things.
